TC Rear Tower To Spring

Now that I'm doing serious work on the TC rear end I noticed an old repair to the based of the left side tower which connects to the spring. I knew the right side tower was damaged and had planned to use Steve Simmons repair method of welding in extra steel plates on the upper side the tower base. H...

TC Badge Bar Color

Here's a simple question: were the posts which support the badge bar at the ends painted body color? One of mine seems to be very light weight (pot metal?) and is silver, the other is all rusted up. Were they right and left handed? Both of mine point the same way.
Thanks, Bryan.

Re: Best Timber Parts

This is an important question because most restorers are better at metal and body work than wood. I'm a reasonable experienced wood worker and I chose to get the key body wood from Craig Seabrook in Ohio. I was happy with what I got from him. The really important parts on my view are first and forem...

TC Front End Improvements-Handling

I have been researching this lately and note that here was a flurry of interest in this with Post here about a decade ago. I'm interested to learn what the current recommendations are and how people feel about the modifications they have done. First let me define my uses for TC 6984. My wife and I i...

Re: TC Front Spring Mystery

Thanks All: I measured the spring leaves against the Blower data and they are both correct. It's off to the spring shop for some retempering .

Re: TC Bonnet Realignment "In Situ"

I'm currently doing the test fit of my hood to TC 6984 as part of my complete restoration which included new tub wood. I had done one test fit earlier before fitting the doors and doing final adjustments to the tub to frame mounting points. For this fit I installed the new rubber welting along the g...

TC Front Spring Mystery

I'm in the process of rebuilding the front axle for TC 6984 and was surprised to find that the arc on the two springs is quite different- see photos. The car seemed to have the correct stance when I brought it home - we have not driven her other than on and off the transport trailer. I did find miss...

Re: TC Top Plate for Rear Springs

Thanks to all those who replied. Yes the bottom plate is a good template and I had guessed at 1/4 inch so now I can proceed. I'll drill the center recessed hole all the way thru and turn a button with stud on it for the centering device.
Cheers, Bryan.

TC Top Plate for Rear Springs

When I disassembled my rear springs which seem to have had difficult history, both the top plates were missing. I'd like to make two and could use a few dimensions. What is the thickness of the plate and if someone has one handy I could use the length and the two widths outsider the ears and along t...

TC Battery Box

There are three captured nuts on the bottom of the TC battery box, the center one is to hold clamps below the box, are the two outside nuts for rods which anchor the battery? And would anyone be able to post a picture here of what the upper battery cradle looks like?
Thanks, Bryan.

Door Latch Lubrication

What was or is now the best way to lubricate the door latch mechanism for the TC? I can see a very light lub of grease or perhaps graphite. After 75 year mine were incredible dirty, but they still functioned amazingly. With a good cleaning and proper service they should be good for many more years. ...

TC Improved Cowl Bracket

In Micheal Sherrell's second book TC Forever More he includes a photo of an improved cowl bracket to add strength to the wood structure in the upper section of the cowl. After considering this I decided to add this to my restoration of TC 6984. I include photos of the original brackets and then the ...

This is my first MG restoration. Here are a few details about this particular car. This is a late 1948 build; it appears that the car was imported directly into Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada arriving there early in 1949. I believe that I am the third owner of this car. The car was initially so...
