Re: GPS Speedometer
I went in another direction in that I purchased a cheap Digital GPS speedometer from amazon. On my TA, the speedometer is in front of the passenger so it is not real easy to read anyway. So I fixed a small GPS display on the top of the dash behind the windscreen & it is easily read & accurate whatev...

Re: Parts needed for TC 7801
I got a new TA fuel filler cap assembly from From The Frame Up.
They have most parts for TA & TC cars.

This is what mine looks like on TA1643.
My Father restored the car in the early 1980s & I suspect that he purchased some “Bling”.

Re: Thinking of adding this to my stable
The trick on fitting the new exhaust was to mount the muffler first in the correct location (I used stainless fasteners as I did not want to do it ever again!). Then install the front & rear pipes from there. My front pipe has a flexible section built in & it was straightforward to adjust it to fit ...

Re: Thinking of adding this to my stable
The exhaust on my XPAG engined TA was beyond redemption.
So I fitted a stainless TC system with no issues whatsoever.

Re: Thinking of adding this to my stable
Looking again, I missed the obvious.
The car has MG TC wheels.
The TA wheels are sidelaced, the TC wheels are center laced.
Picture of TA spoke location attached.

Re: Thinking of adding this to my stable
I don’t see anything that is glaringly incorrect. Does the engine number match ? My engine is an XPAG so I would not know if the engine installation is kosher. My 1937 TA is a former Police car with 10 known previous owners so my car is hardly a pristine spec example ! I don’t see anything that is o...

Re: Clutch foot rest ?
Many thanks TC9800. That is exactly the sort of simple concept that I’m looking for.
It is so clever that I wonder “why didn’t I think of that”.
Problem solved !

Clutch foot rest ?
I’ve scoured the forum & cannot find anything on what members use for a clutch foot rest. I have a TA with a FTFU rubber gear box cover & I need something to rest my left foot on so that I do not end up resting against the clutch pedal & thus possibly wrecking the clutch. My father restored the car ...

Re: New Member. 1937 TA 1646
Well, getting the license plates turned out to be a major issue.
After an application to the Court of Common Pleas in PA & a LOT of supporting documentation,
TA 1646 now has PA Antique plates.
Picture attached of TA 1646 at a local British car club event, the first outing since the “refresh”.

Re: Starter Bendix lubrication
Gents, Mine has the square shaft poking out of the starter & I tried turning that. It is a very small square, about 1/2” across flat, but I could not get enough torque with the small wrench that I had to flick the Bendix out. We tired the rocking in 2nd but my wife was not a lot of help there. It on...

Starter Bendix lubrication
Last Friday, I ran my TA for the first time this year. On leaving the dining establishment, my starter drive gear jammed in the ring gear & so I could not get the car to start. After the 2 starter mounting bolts were loosened, the bendix spring pulled the starter drive gear back. The TA then fired r...

Re: Replacement seats in a Tc
The seats on my TA were the ancestral home of multiple generations of mice. So I purchased a pair of seats from Steve Baker. He showed pictures variations of his seats in his TB so I was able to choose the style that suited me. He then sent color swabs so that our in-house color consultants (my wife...

Re: Replacing the track rod & drag link joints
Steve Simmons, Reference the article you wrote for TC Motoring Guild a while back, discussing the pros and cons of a rod ended steering track rod. http://www.tcmotoringguild.org/techinfo ... native.pdf Did you ever build a rod ended drag link as mentioned in the article ? If so, do you have any deta...

Re: Broken Box Control LUCAS RF95/2 to LUCASRF 95/3
I gave up on my Lucas control box that is circa 80 years old. The modern replacements seem to be very substandard. I fitted a DVR3 solid state voltage regulator from England that is small enough to fit inside the existing Lucas control box. It controls the voltage easily & the car looks externally t...

Re: Horn switch removal
I just did a dash “ease out”. Others may know of an easier way, but I had to free up (undo restraining clips etc.) the oil pressure feed pipe, the starter pull cable, the choke cable and the slow running cable. The dash plate could then slowly eased out enough in my case to get to the back of the ig...

Re: TC Steering
In another current thread about track rods joints, Steve Simmons provided a link to a paper about the steering system & how the TABC cars gain toe out with speed due to flexibility in the track rod ends & drag link ends. The link is: http://www.tcmotoringguild.org/techinfo/a-modern-track-rod-alterna...

Re: Replacing the track rod & drag link joints
Steve, I initially considered a solid spacer but rod ends all have liners which supply some compliance. I agree that some compliance is needed. The other obvious idea is to try to source some stiffer springs that will fit. I’m going to start pouring through spring catalogs…. Even belleville washers….

Re: Replacing the track rod & drag link joints
Steve,
Rather than fitting rod ends, did you consider replacing the springs in the standard outboard joints with a high stiffness material such a rubber or polyurethane ?
This would surely have the same effect while maintaining the appearance of originality ?
