Re: Hello and problem with stub axles
Spindles can be replaced by two people I know, one in Canada and one in the US. Bob Grunau sells new spindle inserts, which he can properly weld in place. They are very nicely finished and made, and the only difference is the nut required. Doug Pelton of From the Frame Up also sells (and, I assume, ...

Re: MG T Type Gearboxes
I would be very cautious about that cluster gear; if it is the one I remember, it has been offered all around for $650 as a TB/TC gear, but is completely diffrerent - not only in teeth numbers, but the teeth face the wrong way. Compare carefully if you have been supplied pictures. I believe the TC b...

Re: TC identification
Yes, I believe the stroke would be the same. I do NOT know about enlarging the cylinders to 1250; I have no experience in this. I have been told that one can have the block ultrasound measured, to see how much meat there is, and whether, for instance, one would break through into a water passage by ...

That's the correct casting number for a post-war 1140cc block.

Yes, that number is indeed a Morris or Wolseley 10, 1140cc. Later ones in the TC era were 24044.

Ed - thank you, but +.030 is right on the cusp of where I begin to be cautious. I have a couple of other people checking. Please send your contact info to me at tlange@acadia.net, so as noty to clutter up this excellent forum!

Re: TC identification
Duncan - I have a car right now where a DPO cut a hole large enough for a heater hose thru the Guarantee plate, effectively ruining it - but I'm keeping it in place, for obvious reasons. I also bought a car on eBay a few years ago which was listed as a standard TD with non-matching engine; I bought ...

Re: TC identification
Flip-flopping on my last post, the owner has sent me a better picture of the engine tag in question, which does indeed read ".TYPE. X.P.J.M.I." I don't know what it means either. Apologies for being so dismissive!

Re: TC identification
To add a bit of information to this post: the owner sent me a picture of his Guarantee Plate with the odd XPJMI identifier. As it turns out the Guarantee Plate on his car is a reproduction with etched engine and chassis numbers, rather than stamped. Because of this I think it safe to say that XPJMI ...

TC Brake Drums Needed
A customer can't afford to buy new Alfins, but his drums are already +.060, so the adjuster runs out of play and snaps back to zero.
Does anyone have any good, used TC drums? I DO need to know their diameter (9" was stock).
Thanks. Tom Lange

Re: TC Radiator hose leaks
"Freeze plugs" is something of a misnomer; the engine holes are actually the remains of the original access points for casting the engine. Welsh plugs, or core plugs, are the actual name. Even with the plugs in place it is possible to crack a block, although in XPAG-type blocks, it is rare. The chan...

Re: Cooling System & Head Gasket
Brad - don't be surprised if the new valve cover leaks; the cork kind tend to. But also, don't be surprised if the head studs you tightened down are bad. Often, when old head studs need tightening, they are actually stretching, resulting in very uneven torque. So blown head gaskets can and do happen...

Craig Seabrook, of The Whitworth Shop, in the USA, does the best job of refurbishing these switches, and silk-screening the proper lettering in place.

In fact, I recommend a rebuild of almost every distributor by Jeff Schlemmer of Advanced Distributor, who re-sets the advance curves appropriately, which cures many overheating issues.

Re: Cooling System & Head Gasket
Steve gives good advice - take it one step at a time. Do the hoses, then drive it. If there is an overheating issue then, fix it with a new water pump, a flushed/repaired radiator, a flushed block, and/or a new thermostat housing. Yes, get the replaceable type, as they are far and away the best. As ...

Re: MG T Type Gearboxes
The TC transmission is completely different from that in the Td and TF, and virtually nothing inside or out is interchangeable. The TC transmission is considerably more robust and reliable, and hardly ever wears out to the point of needing rebuilding - unlike the TD/F trans. The TC vs. TD/TF mountin...

Re: Max bore for XPAG Block
IN GENERAL, it is usually OK to open an XPAG up to +.100, without problems. I have an engine that has been done to +.120", without sleeves (it must be VERY thin...). But even if you do break through into a water jacket, it's not the worst thing in the world. You may get slightly uneven cooling, but ...
