Re: MG TC Pit Car
In 1930/1 MG made what they called High Speed Service Vans, basically re-bodied M-type cars with a van body. This TC is a modern hommage to those early cars, made in Southern California. The picture one sees of RX7884 is clearly original and from the 30's; MGM29 may be the same vehicle with a differ...

Re: Originality versus sensible upgrades?
And then there is always water injection! A TF that used to be in a local car museum had water injection, and the museum's owner swore by it.

Re: MG TC Restoration
Your friend has confused TC and TD. The differentials are completely different, and not interchangeable. His point is to change the ring and pinion of the 5.125 differential for a more salubrious 4.3 MGA ratio, to diminish the revs at higher speeds. On a TD, and in America, where highway speeds are ...

Re: MG TD BLUE engine? And I don't mean sad...
I have NO doubt that all TD and TF engines (except for Gold Seal replacements) were red. For what little it is worth, here is another blue engine:

Re: VW STEERING BOX
I have a more general question about TC steering boxes. TC Bishop Cam steering is notoriously tricky, but if it is set up with EVERYTHING working properly, it seems to work well, without too much wandering. I hear a lot about how wonderful VW steering boxes are as replacements, how everything is str...

I believe that Roger Furneaux (Mad Metrics) in the UK also makes/sells them, along with many other terrific parts.

Re: XPAG engine number
Dirk - XPAG799 was originally fitted to TB0513. On the odd chance you have XPAG/TD/799, that engine was fitted to TD557.
I would be grateful to hear from you off-line at tlange@acadia.net.
I'm happy to help establishing the connection between any engine number and a car.

Re: speedo correction
You either send your speedo to one of the rebuilders, and tell them which ratio you now have, and hope. Or, you contact Speedograph Richfield in the UK, give them the ratios, and they will make up an adapter. (There is someone in the US who does this, but I forget who.) If that's too much money, I u...

Re: MGTC transmission removal
As addenda to Norman's post, when removing the engine and trans together (much easier) you must also remove the drive shaft bolts, the transmission mounts, the ground strap, the clutch chain, the speedometer cable, coil wire and the transmission shift mechanism (cover the transmission opening with c...

Re: transmission or supercharger
As someone who sells a supercharger for the TC, I can assure you that it, in combination with a Morris Minor/Spridget 4.55 pumpkin, will give you all the power you need, with lower RPM's. Once the steering is under control, it's a blast to drive! Contact me off-line if you want any details about eit...

Re: TC9806 for Sale
Jim - slick, and the best of both worlds! It's rare that one sees a nice, fully-sorted TC. Bravo! May I assume the "Norwitt/Westlake C.I." head is somehow related to a Laystall Lucas head? I have never heard of a "Norwitt/Westlake C.I." head, and would be delighted to learn more about it. Does the s...

Re: Leaking Fuel Tank
I agree that tanks do rust out at the bottom, especially when they have sat for a while. But don't lose sight of the fact that the leak could be coming from the fuel-sender, where the gasket is notoriously poor. The best gasket to use as a replacement is the double-flanged rubber one sold by Doug Pe...

Re: Bubbling sound from radiator
I used to have a Mustang restoration shop, and every month or so we would get a frustrated customer insisting he or she needed a new radiator to cure a long-standing overheating problem. Nine times out of ten a new vacuum advance mechanism, properly adjusted, would completely cure the problem. MOST ...

Re: How does radiator drain valve work?
As Steve suggests, it is easy to twist off thin fittings in an old radiator. I STRONGLY recommend you remove the drain from the radiator, as it is probably so stuck closed that you will twist off the radiator fitting by trying to open the drain. Just remove it carefully, as Steve notes, then disasse...

Starting a TA
I am starting work on a TA, sleeping for some 45 years. As I am unfamiliar with the specifics of these engines, are there any tricks to priming the TA's oil system upon start-up? Anything else I should know, look for or do?
