Re: TC Radiator hose leaks

Yea I know Stephen, Just would have been nice to know when I had the side of the engine removed. Hopefully I can manage to remove the pipcock without too much disassembly.

Re: TC Radiator hose leaks

Car is back running!!! Now I get to remove, clean and possibly replace the water pipcock coming from the block. Never leaked before I turned it to drain block water, now it drips. GRR. Have bucket under car and will see what the loss rate is, which will determine when I replace or fix it. Sheesh it ...

BTW, on the head gasket in the attached photo, do I need to peel the cardboard or just install as is?

Re: TC Radiator hose leaks

Steve is right, it is a casting seam. Picture is up side down. The engine is still in the car so don't think I can get the back off very easily... As for a flush, I do have a couple hoses off right now. The three that connect to the branch pipe are disconnected as the branch pipe was another source ...

Re: TC Radiator hose leaks

Oh boy! Popped out that center welsh plug and this is what I found... IMG_0186_400x300.jpg Please tell me that the rest of the engine doesn't look like this... I'm thinking, shop vac it out then clean it down to metal, put the Red Lead stuff in there and bang the new plug in. However, from the...

Re: Does this mean I have a bad piston ring?

Again thanks for the replies, Steve, I bought some Sea Foam and was told you need to run the engine when introducing it. It was suggested to introduce it via a vacuum line, which I'm pretty sure the MG doesn't have. Any ideas on how to introduce it without putting it into the tank? Stephen, Are thes...

Re: TC Radiator hose leaks

Hereis what it looks like all cleaned up. IMG_0178_400x300.jpg Looks like some kind of epoxy was used to try and seal it. You can see the water running out the bottom go the middle plug. New plug on the way. Along with all the associated gaskets that were visible. Let ya know when I start it or hit ...

Does this mean I have a bad piston ring?

From a prior thread where I had a bad welsh plug, I removed the manifold and took a peek at the valves. It looks to me like the left valve in the picture is oily. If that is true then I think I might have a bad piston valve. Car runs, well it did until I took the manifold off, so should I care if it...

Does anyone happen to know what size it is?
Also how does one go about removing said plug?

Oh and thanks again for all the feedback.

Ian, going to take your advice and not tear it down, really enjoy driving it more than fixing it!

Re: TC Radiator hose leaks

Good evening all, Been on a little vacation so my response has been delayed. Thanks everyone for the posts. So it looks like I need to pull off all the carb and manifold to get at this side of the engine. Probably need to look at these plugs with a flash light and mirror to see if I can see water co...

Re: TC Radiator hose leaks

Well I wasn't in the country when the temp dropped and had just got done replacing the radiator... So possible hard lesson learned. I guess I'll find out when I tear it all apart.

BTW does anyone have a good engine rebuilding manual?

Re: TC Radiator hose leaks

So I started her and saw water coming from the engine. Opened the driver side bonnet (right side drive) so left side looking from front, and saw water that looks like it's dripping from the manifold, not good. As I live in Denver and it got very cold one night I fear that the water froze. Are there ...

Re: TC Radiator hose leaks

I guess that could be a possibility as the radiator was full of gunk. However I'm unable to get under the car or start it as it is surrounded by moving boxes. So I'll post back here in 3 weeks when all the boxes are moved and I'm able to check it out.
Thanks for thinking about me!!

Re: TC Radiator hose leaks

Good point Duncan. Going to have to get under there and trace that over flow pipe. Wouldn't that be nice if that was the answer!!

Re: TC Radiator hose leaks

Hmm, I don't have the time to try and fix it before I need to move it to it's new home at my new home. So will probably trailer it. Then tear it all apart and go after it metal bit with a Demmel tool and hope I can get them all shiny for the next install.
Thanks all.

Re: TC Radiator hose leaks

Nope was not leaking before. The radiator and hoses were very old and the radiator boiled in the summer which prompted me to replace it. Hose clamps are about as tight as I can get them. I noticed the issue after letting the car run at idle for 30 minutes, when I turned it off water sprayed out of t...

TC Radiator hose leaks

Good morning all, On my TC I've replaced the radiator and the hoses with ones from Moss. Yet no matter how hard I tighten up the hose clamps (new) the engine still leaks large amounts of water. Is there some sealant that can be applied on the junction where the hose meets metal or do I just need to ...

Can you send me a diagram or photo of where the adjusting nuts are? I've spent no time working on them so that is a new area for me.
