Pat, your friend must first remove the clutch operating arm by drifting out the locking pin them prising the arm off the shaft. He can then turn the shaft fully clockwise so that the clutch fork can ride over the top of the release bearing. On the TA the clutch fork is in front of the thrust bearing...

Justin, the MPJG main bearings are large steel lined shell bearings that can be re-metalled. You can occasionally find a new set, but the normal is to get the old mains white metalled to match the crank dimensions.
