Clutch release bearing
I'm just finishing a rebuild of my gearbox and I want to buy an original Borg and Beck release bearing for the clutch - is Borg and Beck 46892 the correct part number ? The only other number I can find is the original MG part number - 7H 3039, but I'm having trouble cross referencing this. best rega...

Re: Gearbox: First motion shaft nut removal
Hi Mike,
Yes the input shaft nut is a left hand thread. You can use an adjustable C-spanner for this job.

Re: TC bell housings
Hi Bob, I recently purchased a spare bell housing for my MGTC - because the original was cracked in the usual place where the clutch fork bush passes through the side. It was also cracked around the edge of the oil seal recess. When the replacement turned up I was concerned that it was the wrong par...

Re: Tool kits
Hey Tom, I would be interested in a two piece jack handle for my TC. I have the original Shelley jack but not the 2 x piece handle that uses a metal bar as the handle. Re: Front wing stays
I certainly had a hard time getting my wing stays, headlamp brackets and front wings to all line up nicely. My car TC2575 had lost it's swept front wings sometime in the late 1950's and had run cycle guards on the front. Assembling the front end without the wings I could not get the wing struts to l...

Borg and Beck clutch cover springs
Dear TABC, Amongst all the bits a got with TC2575, was a new Borg and Beck 7 1/4" clutch plate and cover. I just pulled it out the other day to check it out and noticed the springs are a light blue colour. I've searched for information about pressure plate springs and found on the MGAguru site the f...

Hi Ray,
I got my copy of TC specification 259 from britbooks.com in the UK. It's an excellent reference for all sorts of info about the TC.
regards,
Simon

Re: B & G cross drilled camshaft
Hi Ian, Yes I think the whole idea of the cross drilled camshaft is to get positive lubrication directly to the cam lobe / cam follower interface to reduce wear. B & G offer a range of camshafts - Standard T Type, improved profile, Fast road, Full Race - so it would be interesting to know what the s...

Re: B & G cross drilled camshaft
Thanks Steve, that sounds good. This was the drawing copied from Bob Grenau from an original MG factory drawing. I've used to take weight out of the flywheel - do you think its safe to take out a bit more?

B & G cross drilled camshaft
Dear All, I'm finally getting somewhere with TC2575. A ground up rebuild of the body is done, so I'm moving onto rebuilding the mechanicals. I'm putting together a specification for my engine rebuild and I was wondering if anyone has had experience with the B&G cross drilled camshafts? They seem lik...

Re: sill plates TC
Hi Stu, I've been wondering about the sill plates as well. I looked them up in the original Factory Specification No 259. They are listed in sheet no 4 (3) - Bought Out Details and it states as follows: part Nos 19332 & 19333 Door Rocker Tread Plates - L/H & R/H - Aluminium - Lucas Engraved - for th...

MG TC original factory drawings
As part of the process of restoring TC 2575 I've been amazed at how much MG actually documented the cars. There is a wealth of factory photos showing assembly at Abingdon, there is a comprehensive specification No 279 covering pretty much every nut and bolt in the car. A great instruction manual - a...

Re: Mount rubbers for fuel tank
Hi Chris, Well I guess it's not critical, you are right you don't see it, but I'm enjoying the challenge of rebuilding the car and wherever possible I like to emulate the way it was done originally. Because my car was missing the metal panels and the original timber plywood board behind the tank I h...

Re: Mount rubbers for fuel tank
Thanks Roger, jddevel, Steve and Tim, I guess it makes sense that the vertical rubbers line up with the pads on the chassis rails, but it would be great to get confirmation of this from an original body tub. I've read Mike Sherrells book from cover to cover countless times, but he makes no reference...

Mount rubbers for fuel tank
Hi All, My name is Simon Sadubin. I am a new member to MG T-ABC. I have been restoring a 1947 MG TC in Sydney Australia for the last few years. My car is chassis no TC2575. It was pretty compete car mechanically, but was missing the rear part of the body tub. I've made a new timber frame carefully c...
