Wiring up a USB charging port in +ve earth
Hi gents, Quick question for the group; I purchased a USB charging port with a plastic body as well as a plastic bracket to completely isolate it from any metal on the car. Being that the car is +ve earth and the fact that the socket will be totally isolated from any metal, should I run the hot wire...

Good point.Steve Simmons wrote: ↑Sun Oct 13, 2024 5:55 pmWorst case, if you fill the float bowls with fuel then it should give you plenty of runtime to get it onto a trailer.

Re: TA-TC fuel pump pressure
Thanks all, I do not know the history of the fuel pump. It’s an older SU which I’m sure has been replaced at some point in the past. I’m happy to do an overhaul of the existing pump but I guess I need to identify if it’s a pre or post 1985 manufacture so I can get the correct kit. I did try and prim...

TA-TC fuel pump pressure
Hi gents, Waking up my TA it seems the pump won’t pull fuel from the tank despite lots of ticking and the fact that fuel will flow if I put a vacuum on the line so I know it’s not a clog or other feed issue. Wondering if anyone can advise on the pressure the pump generates as I’d like to see if I ca...

Re: 5-speed conversion for a 1937 TA
Thanks Ray, yes, Peter has been quite helpful thus far in my communications with him and I agree the alternative 1st gear ratio is a good idea so will have it built that way. I’ve been working on my Healey 3000s and my MGB/GT the last couple of weeks so will be resuming work on the TA in just a bit ...

Re: 5-speed conversion for a 1937 TA
Appreciate that info Steve. I’m going to first see if some Redline 85W-140 will improve things with the existing box but if not, I’ve gone ahead and reached out to Hi Gear to open communications on obtaining a kit.

Re: 5-speed conversion for a 1937 TA
I’m thinking the synchro rings aren’t available or reproduced any longer but I could certainly be mistaken. If I knew I could have the box that’s currently in the car redone, I’d be happy to go that route. I switched the gear oil in my ‘48 TC to Redline 85W-140 and man that car shifted beautifully. ...

Re: 5-speed conversion for a 1937 TA
Thank you Steve. I’ll have to take a look and see which box is in the car. Appreciate the pics.
I do love the “rifle bolt” feel of the original T boxes but it seems that getting them repaired is difficult to impossible.

5-speed conversion for a 1937 TA
Hi gents, So, have been making some improvements to my recently acquired ‘37 TA (new hood and side curtains, five new 4.5x19 Excelsior tires and tubes) and have been contemplating a 5 speed swap. Those of you who helped me vet this car on my other thread will recall that it’s fitted with an XPAG eng...

Re: Thinking of adding this to my stable
Thanks Steve, I shall report back with my findings. Be a couple weeks as I’ve got another car on my lift at the moment. Soon as that one’s done, the TA goes up in the air.

Re: Thinking of adding this to my stable
Ray,
Yes on the springs and it looks as if one or two of the bolts on the plate from the axle to spring are missing and others have lost their nut so I suspect that’s where my problem lies. Will report back as I dig in a bit deeper.
Cheers,
Aaron

Re: Thinking of adding this to my stable
Well done Aaron. You are a lucky guy, that's for sure. What a delightful little car it is. You will be able to enjoy it and improve as required. Please keep us up to date with your experiences. Ray. Thanks Ray. I was a bit sad to see my TC go as I had it sorted out really nicely (mechanically, at l...

Re: 1937 TA hood
Can't speak for a Robbins hood, but the TA and TC hoods are virtually identical in size and shape. I've made a lot of them. The shape on the rear bottom of the hoods for very early TAs is a bit different. Tom Wilson Kimber Creek Ltd. Thank you Tom. This car is s/n 1795 so hopefully it’s after the c...

To cap off this thread, the car now belongs to me
There will be questions for the trust I’m sure but I’m quite excited to have a prewar car in my collection. Thanks again to all for your input!
Cheers,
Aaron

1937 TA hood
Hello gents, So I’ve acquired the red ‘37 TA of which I had a thread on here about a month ago. The hood is in okay condition but I’d like to replace it. As I am in possession of a brand new Robbins canvas hood from my TC days, I was wondering if anyone knows if this will work on a TA? Cheers, Aaron
Re: TC tyres
I used the Excelsior 450-19 tires on my ‘48 TC from Universal Vintage Tire and have just ordered five more to replace the aged ones on my recently acquired ‘37 TA. They performed well on the TC and I expect the same result on my TA.

Re: Car show buying
Mark, I’ve only ever bought one car at a show and that was my ‘73 Stag. It was at the Brit car show at Ursuline College in Cleveland and I live in Cincinnati but I tracked the owner down and had a good look and drive that day, had a check with me folded up in my wallet (always good policy!) and gave...

Re: Hood fitting to screen
Just did the hood on my ‘48 TC. You’ll need to trim the front edge after you’ve pulled the material tight so you’ll need extra hands for this exercise (two people is best) and then attach the actual roof material to the wooden bow (a strong staple gun works well) and at the corners, if you have an o...

Re: Thinking of adding this to my stable
Appreciate all of the great information guys, Grand Rapids is not terribly far from where I’m at so I’ll probably try to see if I can make a run up there so I can give the car a good look over in person. Generally speaking, all I am really after is for the car to be in good overall condition and to ...
