Happy birthday! Mine, 5464 was yesterday the 12th. 76 years young. Only 30 years between them. The pubs must have been busy.

Re: TC Steering Wheel Swap

I had the same problem with a new Brooklands hub. DONT pry on it like I did and cracked it. I resorted to lapping compound on a new hub. Back and forth a million times until it fit.

Re: TC rear axle pinon shaft oil seal

Dave, I have a replacement seal for the Moss pinion cap. Box marked “CR seals” and “SKF” . The factory P/N on the box is 12364 and Moss P/N 120-110. There is also a note on the factory label saying “try speedi-sleeve P/N 99125 for Ind’l shafts 1.247-1.253. It measures 1.760 OD and is .260 thick. ID ...

Texted with Daniel yesterday. The block is in the machine shop and needs the cylinder liners replaced.
Yes Franz, he should post his progress here. We’d all like to see it.

The cloth tape wrapped corrugated tube looks very period. Much better than plastic. Nice job!

Re: rear oil seal/thrower

I too was concerned about the conversion on my recent rebuild and followed the procedure in Steve’s post. I set and torqued the crank numerous times applying engineers blue to the JB weld. Turning the crank a few times by hand would show a slight mark from the scroll. I’d then scrape the JB weld wit...

Welcome Lynn! Like yourself I too find old things like old friends. They speak to me, are special, and need to be preserved for the next generation of nuts like us.
Looking forward to your posting images.

Re: TCs with twin HS4 SUs

John, My TC came with a 1500 TD block bored to 1500. I’ve since rebuilt and re installed the original engine. The 1500 had H4s on it and used Stellings and Hellings filter housings which cleared the bonnet. I also ran the H4s for a bit on the rebuilt stock engine, but have re installed the H2s and u...

The rivet can also be heated prior to sticking it in the hole. Just move fast.

Re: Door repair

As Stephen mentioned, injecting wood glue and clamping is probably the easiest repair without a bunch of disassembly. You also may be able to remove the latch and kick panel. This would give access to pre drill and add a couple of wood screws to the repair at the best locations. Pre drill for the sc...

Re: Exactly what does a Panhard Rod do on the front, and what are the advantages?

I installed the same pan hard rod as Steve. It was a simple job. Like Steve describes, the difference is nuanced. Not a big difference, but to me it just feels more solid in the twisties and gives me more confidence to fling it into a turn. Maybe a bad idea tor me........ In the image, the right sid...

Re: TC3995 on Copart in San Berdoo

I too would like to know the story. I hope you’re wrong Steve and it does get restored. A new clad body tub would be the biggest hit I think. The rest of the mechanicals will probably be OK. A nice project if acquired cheaply enough.

Wanted to buy Lucas Altette horn

My TC5464 came with an incorrect Altette horn. Would like to install a proper one. Preferably working electrically, but no problem if it needs cosmetic restoration.
Thanks in advance all!

Re: Rebuilding XPAG 9204

I just bought the two galley plugs from FTFU. The front steel one was much deeper into the threads than Steve’s and covered over with a very hard sealant I had to chip out. Maybe JB weld. After exposing the screwdriver slot, they were too tight and I didn’t want to chew up the slot. The machine shop...

Thanks Tim.....a nice yardstick to be aware of......at this point it’s a bit moot as I bit the bullet.....or bit the billet So to speak and bought a new crank. The wallet will heal and I’ll be able to sleep better..
Cheers,
