Skip,
Don't you mean AP (lean) needles??? EMs ar the RICH ones, and the problem would seem to be that he's alredy running too rich because of the lower air density at altitude.

Carl Frits

Re: Alloy XPAG blocks...1500 CC
OK, gentlemen, I've had a few chuckles out of this thread, and a few bursts of indignation as well, but I think it's about time to bury the hatchet (or should I say half-shaft?), and get on with the real business of the TABC list. In case some of you have forgotten, THE LIST'S PURPOSE IS THAT OF SHA...

Re: Doors falling off or sloppy?
Chuck, Glad to hear that you've successfully used metal inserts to mount your door hinges! Good information, THANKS! The inserts you refer to are sometimes known as "threaded sleeves". They are available in several sizes, and at least two types (one type is installed using a straight-bladed screwdri...

Headlights (Plating / Resilvering) of reflectors
My TC is equipped with a set of Lucas "Tripod" headlights, which originally were fitted to XK120 Jags, but were not acceptable to licensing authorities in some states in the US, since they are not "sealed beams". These units are 7 & 1/2 inches across the face of the FLAT (non-prismatic) lenses, and ...

Another thought on fuel tanks
Just had another brain-storm. Seems to me that one could purchase a "stock" size racing fuel cell of a size which could be mounted in the space beneath the "floor" of the luggage area, then linked via a hoses to the existing tank's filler neck and outlet. "Stock" sizes can be bought from several sup...

Fuel tank crud & rusting-out; possible ultimate solution?
There has been a lot of recent correspondence re. two related problems with T-type fuel tanks: Rusting out and/or developing layers of crud. I can't help but wonder if anyone has considered gutting the fuel tank completely, then installing a modern "fuel-cell" within the shell that's left? There are...

Advice wanted re. TC transmission & rear axle ratio
Hello, All, I'm preparing my '48 TC "Betsy" for a 4-month tour of her homeland. She has something over 200,000 miles on her original, untouched transmission. My concern is that the tranny is beginning to be somewhat noisy in top gear, most especially under light load, constant speed--level ground co...

Original TC air cleaner
Happy New Year, All, I hate to admit it, but many years ago when I was younger and more foolish, I lost track of the original air cleaner for my TC. I did have enough sense to keep the 2-piece aluminum "manifold" which fastens to the carbs, but the air-cleaner can itself is long gone. Now I want to ...

Re: torque problem
Jim, Solutions are great; problrems are fun (as long as they're not mine, that is)!! I think I'd suspect a problem with the rear axle location, such as a broken top leaf on a rear spring, or a broken/loose axle mount, or a broken shackle. Any of thes could cause the problem as you've described it. (...

Insurance for UK visit
I am planning to take my MG TC to England for a 4-month stay during the Summer of 2000. My current insurance is not valid outside the USA. Seeking any info. regarding sources of coverage with UK-based insuror. (One such company turned me down on the basis that they "do not insure visitors, or short-...

Re: SU Pump Puzzle
Yep, sounds all too familiar. The strainer at the fuel tank outlet on my TC was so cruddy I couldn't believe it could pass any fuel at all. Fact is, I didn't even know there was a strainer there until it stopped up completely!! I never have found any mention of his strainer in any of my books. Regar...

Re: Handbrake oilers
Mike, 1. You're right, the bracket is NOT spot-welded to the panel, it IS held on by two slotted screws, which I'm NOW sure penetrate into the wood behind it. It took a bit of scraping to reveal the screw-heads underneath heaven only knows how many years of accumulated crud. (Betsy's not concours--s...
