Re: Brake Failure

There was quite a bit of air in the furthest wheel. Four pumps before brake fluid began to appear. I've never had that experience before when I doing yearly bleeding. The others had minimal air. I had previously changed out all the springs at the wheels and pedal. I suspect the furthest cylinder has...

Re: Brake Failure

Thanks to all of you for your ideas. I checked the brake lines,MC, etc with no indication of leakage. Then I bled the line out. Much air in there. The brakes came back after bleeding. Perhaps when I tested the brakes HARD the day before, I explosed some intermittent crack etc in the system which onl...

Brake Failure

Good Day From Houston: Yesterday I got the TC all shined up for a car show. I started my final check ride, put the brakes on and the pedal promptly went to the floor!!! Amazing how fast one's thoughts get focused!! Thanks to the hand brake I was able to get the old girl back to the garage. I checked...

Good Morning Group - I am about to change out the rear end gear ratio from 5.125:1 to 4.625:1 for better driving characteristics. ( It is supercharged.) How does one go about changing the speedo/trans to acomodate this change to maintain accurate speed indication? Thanks in advance. Jim Davis TC 722...

Re: Oil Pump Priming

Hi All: Quite a bit of water has pasted under the bridge since this string started. In that time I have tried other line replacements. All had the same pressure drop. Finally, I procured a set of fittings which allowed me to make test lines which maintained the same (approx 8mm) line ID throughout t...

Re: Dropping Pitman arm

Thanks for the help. I talked to the person who restored the car many years ago and he said that it is a very early Datsun box from Australia and has only one bolt on the splined shaft. He stated that I should used a puller and it should come off. Here's hoping....Jim

Dropping Pitman arm

Hi All - I am in the middle of preparing to raise the engine front end to remove the oil pump. I need to move the vw steering box up to give room for the starter when raising the engine front. I need to detach the Pitman arm from the box. It appears that it is held on by one large nut and splines. I...

Removing Oil Pump Shaft and Gear

I am currently awaiting a rebuilt oil pump and preparing to remove the old one which, in part, involves pulling out the oil pump shaft and gear. I am putting together a pulling device but need to know the thread specs (type, size, and pitch) of the hole in the top of the shaft and the diameter of th...

Re: TC distributor filling with oil

Murph - I recall an article on this problem which proposed that the design of the dizzy can cause oil to be pulled up into the case. The article suggests a mod to cure the problem. I will try to dig the article up today and post it or a reference for your consideration. Cheers.

Re: radiator hose

Actually, the easiest way is to buy a replacement silicone hose. They go on without removing anything etc and many have that antique look we all prize.

Re: TC Petrol Cap

The TC petrol cap does vent. There is an excellent Tech Tip on the Doug Pelton's From The Frame Up web site showing exactly how the cap is assembled. You will notice that if it is done as per instructions the cap will vent.

Re: Oil Pump Priming

Hello All: Thanks for the suggestions. The oil lines are replaced. Really simple installation for the protection it gives. However, one glitch raised its head. After changing out the lines, I cranked the starter without the ignition being on and saw the oil pressure begin to rise. I started her up a...

Oil Pump Priming

Good Day All: I am about to replace the rigid lines from the oil pump to the oil filter and from the oil filter to the engine block. I assume that I will lose prime during this process. I never have had to prime the old girl before. Lucky! My unit has no prime plug. What are some of the ways to do t...
