Re: Datsun steering box
Wow. I wonder how this situation came about, as an inspector smart enough to spot a non-standard steering box would also be smart enough to know it is an improvement. This is a sign of the times. Good luck with getting it sorted (yes, my BC box is stored in the attic just in case a future owner is c...

Re: Likely spots for the TD rear differential to leak from?
Sorry Team, it was probably in bad form for me to forget to close out this discussion with the final result. The pinion seal was bad and the pinion flange was also faulty - a new one at Moss was cheap and earier than messing with a speedisleeve... There were no metal shavings in the fluid. So, this ...

Re: Originality versus sensible upgrades?
Is it a consensus that seat belts are a good option for these cars? Honestly, I look at my TC and figure I would like to take my chances on being thrown from it rather than skewered on all the hard, wood, splintered, twisty bits that would face me in a crash. I suppose this comes down to a coin toss...

Re: Likely spots for the TD rear differential to leak from?
Excellent. I did just that on your advice. Not hard to see that the pinion seal is leaking badly. I have a new one on order from Moss Motors. With luck it will be here by the weekend. If anone has installation advice, I am all ears.. first time I have done this job. THanks. Tom

Likely spots for the TD rear differential to leak from?
My little TD is nearly done with its low-cost transformation from chicken-coop find to driver. It successfully made a 30 mile round trip drive to the local Cars & Coffee last weekend, but upon returning home and going into the garage it was clear the rear diff was leaking pretty badly. In the drivew...

Re: Where does TD tach cable pass through firewall/bulkhead
Brian, EXCELLENT! Thank you!! :o)
I spent the whole day working on the TD - got the brakes adjusted properly and bled - even had a satisfying test drive. I will add the tach cable later in the week or next weekend. THank you!!!

Re: Where does TD tach cable pass through firewall/bulkhead
OK. For some reason I am not seeing any obvious bulkhead holes there! THere is sometimes a TD at our local cars and coffee, but he was not there this morning so I could not get a hands-on view of another car. And all online engine bay photos are not close enough to see through the maze of items near...

Where does TD tach cable pass through firewall/bulkhead
Trying to sort out how to route the tach cable from the generator to the tach on the dash of a US spec LHD car. For some reason it is not obvious to me! From online photos it would appear the cable routes behind the engine. Does it go through the trans tunnel cover or is there another hole there som...

Re: MG TD BLUE engine? And I don't mean sad...
I'll see if I can find that book - as I am mildly intrigued. If was rebuilding an engine, I would keep my costs low by not repainting the removed parts - valve covers and such. That would cause me to paint the block the color the other bits already are. I suspect I will find nothing on this, but, if...

Re: MG TD BLUE engine? And I don't mean sad...
Wow Steve, thanks! I learn something every day! I did not know they stamped the number as well. I just ran out to the barn and took this photo - could not see it without photographing it! Yes, the number is stamped and it matches the octagonal tag number - 20490. Photo attached. Also, inside my tool...

MG TD BLUE engine? And I don't mean sad...
Team, As noted in a prior post, a few weeks back I acquired an old TD and the engine bay was a mess with a dark blue engine. Well, I figured someone painted it, or it was a replacement. But, now that I am getting the car roadworthy I have a real puzzle on my hands. THe engine wears the number 20490 ...

And Jay, not sure if you are familiar with Tam's old race car site http://www.tamsoldracecarsite.net/ but he has a lot of period photos there. You might just spot Dad on the track or in the background. Good luck. Tom

Tried to repair the photo in Photoshop to get to the true colors and proper contrast. Here is my best shot at it.

Re: TD... want to modify it for Calif Rally events - help?
"Special sections require some special spark plugs, and therefore the difficulty of changing surely be rewarded" (loose translation!) I encountered that TD on my internet searches as well - it stands out since it must be some sort of special factory variant - look at those completely unusual front f...

Re: TD... want to modify it for Calif Rally events - help?
Good ideas Steve / Stephen - keep them coming. A couple responses: 1. Stephen, your comment "sounds like a pretty nice car." Thank you! It is. But crusty enough that I want to have a little fun with it. With MGs, Jags, and some others, I have 7 other vintage cars that I keep dead stock original. I d...

TD... want to modify it for Calif Rally events - help?
Hello Team, In addition to my MG-M Midget, TC and MGA, I just acquired TD20136. The car is a California car from new, absolutley zero rust and good wood. But, 2 coats of 1960's-1970's resale-red (thank you Mr Earl Scheib) over the original Silver Streak Grey and black interior spray over the origina...

Re: Hi-Torque Starter Motor
I have used a similar motor on my Etype, but not on the TC (in fact, for this summer I have so far only used my crank on the TC since I am too lazy to get under it and sort out the starter motor connection!). All this said, I would not start cutting away at your engine bellhousing to accommodate tho...

Yup... same problem here. Locktight did the trick. Not too much though... when you think you have enough on there, you already have too much!

Re: British registration value
Too funny Dave ("...but they want money of course. I have to ask my wife.") I have the opposite problem. Every time I look at a car she says, "That one is cute, you should buy it." Now I am swimming in cars and short on cash! Good luck with the Reg investigation. Let us know if you get to a Northern...
