Re: XPAG Crankshaft

Hi Whitworth Heads, Just returned from Moldex, the premier custom crank and rebuild shop in Detroit. Asked the "old man" Bob Gilliam about nitriding. He explained, yes it does make them brittle if left in the oven too long. Further, that "typical" shops do that so the crank can be reground a couple ...

Re: Alloy XPAG blocks...1500 CC

Excellent Andy,

Well said. Now may we all say good night to this thread until the next century?

Drive em until the roads wear out, you'll never get another chance.

And mind our motto, "Safety Fast". Your interpretation is PERSONAL..

Re: Alloy XPAG blocks...1500 CC

Hi Whitworth Heads, Quite a weekend your fingers are having on the keyboard. Time would be better spent ignoring holier than thou Derek. But do find some original 1949 hot air from Abingdon for his tires. Since no one has yet, I should remind him that it took Costello to show Abingdon how to defend ...

UK schools

Hi Whitworth Heads, This is not precisely on our T-ABC subject, but most of ours have been subjected to this subject (its fun to play with English words). Now for my reason and query. I've been contracted to develop an automobile restoration program at Washtenaw Community College near my home. I'm a...

Re: Scuttle and Tool / Battery Box Details

Hi Terry, Thanks for supplying my morning laugh with coffee in hand! Been rather busy of late but appreciated seeing pictures of Big Boy nearing completion. Your view makes the most sense. I'd add they didn't prototype change ideas, every sub-assembly went to the line. Seeing how my tool and battery...

Re: Datsun brake drums

Hi Gene, I'm not a Datsun expert, contrary to what some on this list may think just because I steer my TC with the help of a Datsun tiller, but I am fairly certain that you won't find drums on the front of a 240Z.

MG & Monte Carlo

Hi Whitworth Heads,

Though you might enjoy reading about this year's Monte Carlo Vintage Rally written by my friend Kevin Clemens. There is MG content. When you are on-line click on:

Re: Front Spindles and Bearing Spacers

Hi John, New ball or roller bearings? Do you have the original spacer between the inner races? Cheers, Peter I am just about to reassemble my front hubs/stub axles with new bearings, seals and hubs. Is there a preferred sequence of assembly, - I've learned that it pays to ask before you start! John ...

Re: Silverplating Needed - Headlamp Reflect

Clive, Terry is right about aluminum with a silica coating. I used to be involved with mirror systems and optics for scientific spectroscopy with airborne optics exposed to atmosphere. Coated aluminum gave the best performance. My TC's reflectors are silver plated however. I brighten them up every c...

Re: Advice wanted re. TC transmission & rear axle ratio

Hi Carl, I'll address the more or less external parts of the trans you should look at first. Take the rubber cover off and inspect the rear transmission cover for cracks while you are there. As to that noise, it might be that approx. 16 inch long 9/16 inch or so diameter metal rod that is the remote...

Timing and Engine Data

Hi Whitworth Heads, I was called to a great Alsatian dinner and sent me previous message in haste. Now I found an error in the paragraph starting: Set your timing using the static method at TDC (do this because you will first want to measure the maximum advance of your distributor). Warm up your XPA...

Re: Timing and Engine Data

Hi Whitworth Head, Well here are my 2 cents worth, plus some change. Am feeling negligent since I haven't contributed lately. First of all, unless you are running high compression, you are wasting money buying premium fuel. XPAGs don't need the extra cost fuel injection cleaner additives, and the hi...

Monte Carlo Rally

Hi Whitworth Heads, I just got a call from a friend who is co-driving London to Monte Carlo in a 1960 Alfa. He said this year seems unusual because three T-Types are registered, a TA and two TCs. He races a TD here in the "States". Anyone know who the TA and TC drivers are? T-ABCers by any chance? B...

Re: XPAG dip tube

Hi Larry, I believe you are describing the tube which directs the oil to return from the rear main oil slinger (not seal) to the sump. You might simplify its reattachment by using C7 epoxy after cleaning surfaces. Then make sure the pipe is well open at both ends. In this vicinity it is much more im...

torque problem

Jim,
Sounds to me like your rear axle location is being shifted from where it ought to be by engine torque and engine braking being transmitted to the wheels. I'd check axle attachment to springs, springs themselves, rubber bushings, and spring shackles.
