Re: Alternative Steering Box in TC's
TC6338's Bishops Box was in terrible condition when I got the car. The worm was spalled and I got away with it for a while by turning the peg 90 degrees and dressing the worm. Since then I installed a VW conversion by Bud Silvers. I just finished a great trip as in an above post. I couldn't have don...
Re: Road Trip
Can't really compare to any other cam as this is the only one I've driven. I have owned TC 6338 since 1966. Never had it on the road with the original cam. My memory of driving it back then was that it was quicker than it is now but it wasn't much more than a chassis back then so it was a lot lighte...

A heat shield is definitely worth it on a driver. I just made some up out of aluminum for my XPAG and it has cured the hot restart problem. The fuel pump "clicks" a lot less which tells me the gasoline isn't boiling out of the carbs as fast. Should have installed one years ago!

Re: TC 6710 not real good in the snow!
My TC 6338 looked the same only assembled by a 15 year old kid (me) in 1966. dad caught me driving it and put it away. It stayed put away until just a few years ago when I restored it.
It sure was hard to resist driving it back then!
keep on having fun!

Re: XPAG plumbing for heater
I used Ben Cordsen's bypass method. The bypass tube is replaced by a short length of copper tube with a blanking disk soldered in the middle. Two 1/2" copper elbows are soldered to the tube one above and one below the blanking disc. I placed a 1/4 turn lever operated ball valve just inside the firew...
