Re: XPAG Crankshaft
Roger: The XPAG crank that I refer to is the later improved crank. I had one in my engine for several years, having bought it new from British Motors in Berkeley Ca. After several years of driving, I tore the engine down for a rebuild, a Magnafluxed the crank. It was cracked in "Three" different pla...

Re: XPAG Crankshaft
Bob: The new Moss crank should be used for all applications. To my knowledge, no one has broken one yet. The factory crank is just waiting to break. Also, the Moss crank is already nitrided. It should weld up very nicely for the rear main conversion. Cheers: Skip Kelsey................................

Re: TC's vs Altitude
Austin: I run one and a half SUs, and have for about thirty years. If you do nothing else to the engine it is a waste of time. I am bored .100 oversize, head clipped to about 9.5-l compression,a crane cam, lightened flywheel, balanced engine etc. Now it does run very strong with the bigger carbs. I a...

You are absolutely correct. The leaner needles are called for. I cant think of what went thru my mind. Thanks for catching that. You should also go much farther advanced on your timing. The higher you go, the more advance it will tolerate.

Try running EM needles. This is a classic problem as you go higher in altitude. The problem is further exacerbated if you are running without the stock air cleaner, or no air cleaner.

Derek: I can only say that you enjoy another 40 years of driving your MG "custodial unit". If thats your bag,do it. I cant argue with that. But, let the rest of us "hot rodders" enjoy are cars as we like without disdainful remarks about our purity. I do believe that it is all of our goal to drive an...

Re: Alloy XPAG blocks...1500 CC
Derek: You certainly have a right to your opinion, and can do or not do anything that you want to your car. But to flatly state that if I improve the steering, by installing a Datsun steering box in a TC, then it is no longer an MG is laughable. I agree that major engine swaps and the like are not t...

Derek: I think that we went thru this thread with a gentleman from Cape Town. I dont think anyone has the right to be critical of someone elses way of thinking about their car, and its mods. I like the saying "Safety Fast", which was coined by MG in the early days. Those were the folks that were alw...

I know he is not up to speed yet, but Phil Marino does a nice repair on this type of problem. He has done it for me in the past. I am sure someone else has also done this.

Re: shorter pushrods???
Bob: The stock cyl. head is 76.75mm thick. 8.6 to 1 is 76.25mm thick, and 9.3 to 1 is 75.50mm thick. so yours is still within specs for the road. The TF pushrod is very slightly shorter than the TC unit, plus the adjusters are longer. This was due to the change from the TC cam with a .308 lift to the...

Re: Front Spindles and Bearing Spacers
Alan: How many "standard" engines do you think are still out there. About all that is left in Std. are the re-sleeve jobs. Also, I think a lot of people are getting a little tired of the overpriced junk that is being offered in some areas. I know that I am. On a positive note, you just stick with th...

Just grind the bosses inside the bell housing, and when you get clearence, all will work fine. I have done it several times. I believe its spelled out in either the stage tune manual, or Woody Woods book.
