Re: Boost gauge location

FWIW, my original TA dash plywood has a crudely cut hole apparently for adding another gauge to the right of the steering wheel. 20241113_162640.jpg 20240304_173602.jpg 20240304_173631.jpg However, it never had a gauge installed there. The walnut dashboard never got a hole cut there. I'm guessing th...

Re: Wiring up a USB charging port in +ve earth

If this port is really totally isolated, then the words hot and earth do not apply.
Connect positive to positive and negative to negative.
You might put an inline fuse holder in the negative line just for extra security.

Re: TC Master Cylinder Pushrod Alignment

That drawing is exaggerated. Let's say it should be reasonably close to straight.
The lower end of the pedal arm moves in an arc. The master cylinder is in a fixed position.
So there has to be a swivel joint there or it wouldn't work.

Re: Chassis rails

The book TCs Forever has a line drawing side view of a TA and it is drawn with the chassis rail parallel to the ground. I had to look up Y-tube because mine does not have one. I guess you mean the branch pipe Moss 434-210. I agree that can wait until most of the car is assembled. I'm at the point wh...

Re: Chassis rails

In the Blower manual the ground clearance is given as 6 inches.
That usually means measured at the center of the chassis, not at the axles.
So I think it is a fair assumption that the chassis is parallel to the ground except where it sweeps up towards the front.

Raydot Side Mirror Repair

My Raydot mirror had a bad spot in it where the silver had come off. It comes apart easy enough, just pry up the 4 nubs holding it together. So I decided to replace the mirror glass. It is .116" thick. This involves grinding the oval shape on a bench grinder. You have to take it slowly or it will su...

I have #4 gauge cable, which is pretty standard for car battery to starter.

Re: Kill Switch and Fusible Link?

One of my Jags has an inline fuse holder in the ignition circuit under the dashboard and I can take out the fuse and reconnect the holder. No thief would think of a missing fuse.

Re: TA-TC fuel pump pressure

Likely it needs a new diaphragm and points. There are long and short stem diaphragms so measure your coil body length to get the right one. The original pump was the longer length. Moss has all 4 varieties.

Re: TA-TC fuel pump pressure

What is the status of your original pump? Unrestored original? Restored by some unknown person? Restored by you? There should be two discs inside that are basically check valves to stop flow backwards. Be sure they are clean and seal reasonably well. I have found that when they are dry inside they w...

Re: T a master cylinder

My car has been converted to a TD master.
This is all I could find for TA. It's from the Instruction Manual for the T Midget.
Maybe you could print it and scale the picture to get an idea of the size.

Re: Petrol Tank Pads

Here is what my '37 TA had. They measure 1/2" x 1-1/4" in cross section. By the way the ones on the bottom squished out, I would think they were something about the durometer of tires. gas tank padding.jpg They appear to have been attached to the frame and plywood back panel by flat head (countersun...

Re: TA Body Tub Timber Construction Pictures

Studying it some more today, I see that the door has to come off, but as I thought, I need to be sure I've taken off enough on the timber door sill before I add the thickness of the steel panel. 20240904_142111.jpg The car is currently on its wheels, but I think I'll put it up higher so I can sit on...

Re: TA Body Tub Timber Construction Pictures

Oh, no, here comes Rob with another question. I finished my cowl 20240903_120858.jpg and moved on to the kick panel side and rocker panels. I decided they were too far gone to try to save, all four had old accident damage along with severe rust away. Doug had a combined side and rocker at a good pri...

Re: TA Body Tub Timber Construction Pictures

Thanks Mick. I see in the Instruction Manual there is a picture and I can see the screw head there, and no dashboard mirror. Re: TA Body Tub Timber Construction Pictures

I realized that I can't put the front timbers on until the body panels are on. So now I have switched to restoring body panels. The first is the top dash panel or cowl. 20240822_064501.jpg There are a number of extraneous holes from mirrors to be filled. dash panel holes.jpg Near as I can tell from ...

Re: Regulator and Fuel Pump Testing, plus wiring routes

Thanks, I couldn't remember that part name transil. There are several videos on Youtube about rebuilding and testing the low pressure SU fuel pumps. Operationally they are all pretty much the same, just different sizes, pump body designs and external fittings. I've rebuilt about a dozen with new dia...

Re: TA Body Tub Timber Construction Pictures

Not a bit, after all we are working through the same problems. And thanks Duncan for the confirmation about the holes in the rubber bonnet corners. Both Doug and Moss have the same, so I conclude I must have got mine from somewhere else, possibly Worcester Classic Spares, but I'll have to find my ol...
