Re: Unfortunate news for TC#1943
Steve, The long term owner had passed away and his family was in the process of settling the estate. As I understand things, after a careful inspection and conversation I was offered the car at what I thought was a fair price. My wife and I then went for lunch and decided that this TC was not the ri...

Re: Unfortunate news for TC#1943
Just home from a few days out camping on the coast and read the last few comments. Duncan, Thanks for the suggestion on a way to get the TC back on the road without having to pull the entire rear end for a rebuild. I apparently have a pretty deep anal streak in me and over the years I just cannot br...

Re: Unfortunate news for TC#1943
Thanks for the comments. Roger, you and I are literally on opposite sides of the planet. I am in the Northwest corner of the USA. Specifically, Lake Stevens, Washington State. If you were closer, I would already be on my way to getting the assembly to you for a reconditioning. As it is I have three ...

Unfortunate news for TC#1943
Hi All, Just a quick update on current state of affairs concerning my 1946 TC serial number 1943 with a matching numbers engine. After much effort to bring it fully back to driver status I had a rear end failure on a short jaunt. As I was letting out the clutch there was the just a slight clunk and ...

Re: 1946 TC valve clatter question
Norman, I really liked that article and that kind of activity just puts a smile on my face. I only wish I knew of it when I had the front of the car apart for a cooling system overhaul. Current update. - Distributor sorted and timing now correct. Thanks to all who contributed to that process. Picked...

Re: Distributor Issue/Question
Nicely done guys. Thanks a bunch. Comments and picture answered questions. Everything very very tight. Too much so from my experience. Spent a few moments before dinner working at getting things loose and finally got some rotation. No bleeding involved either. We have a very nasty weather day headed...

Re: Distributor Issue/Question
Hi Steve, While I understand what you are suggesting I am somewhat confused as at the moment I cannot even get to a TDC spark with the micro adjuster at full advance. I loosened the nut on the back of the micro adjuster to try to rotate the body but the body did not seem to want to rotate at all. Th...

Distributor Issue/Question
I believe I have found the reason for my hot running and lack of power. My distributor appears to have been installed 180 degrees out from correct. I checked the timing with a strobe light and found it running at a degree or two past TDC and the micro adjuster at full advance to get to that setting....

Re: 1946 TC valve clatter question
Could not agree more with both sets of comments. Both of you pretty much confirm what I feel is likely to be correct for this motor. 19 is way too loud. 15 a reasonable starting point for getting to correct. I have a paper trail that came with the car for work and parts going back to 1950. Nothing a...

1946 TC valve clatter question
Happy Friday Folks, My 1946 TC serial number 1943 is back on the road. A winter spent taking care of many years of neglected service work and worn-out parts has made a local driver out of it. The list of attended too items is as follows, -New cooling system. Non-pressurized is a revelation to me. -N...

Re: Long Shot Request
Thanks Steve, Watching appropriate sites regularly. One reproduction valve cover is consistently listed on-line but when contacted the seller does not actually have one for sale and has not removed the listing. I am thinking that working within the TC community might help me avoid potential issues i...

Long Shot Request
Hello to all and Happy Holidays as well. This request is likely to be met with chuckles and smiles but hear goes anyway. I am working to bring back and correct TC1943. It is a running driver but has much ignored maintenance and a few alterations that make me scratch my head. That work is underway. A...

Re: MG-TC 'original' tools
I couldn't agree with you more Steve. I was stunned when I opened the tool box on the firewall and all this was revealed. The nephew, now in his 60's, then casually stated he had a stack of paperwork 4 inches thick going back to late 40's early 50's. Nicest guy you would ever want to meet who really...

Re: MG-TC 'original' tools
All of this came with TC1943 recently purchased from the nephew of the original owner, or at most, the second owner, who willed it to the only family member who showed any interest over the 60+ years of his ownership. This plus paperwork for work and correspondence on parts back into the late 40s pu...

Re: Starter Install....tips needed
Had a chat with a local person as well as sending this question out to all of you. It was suggested that the install would be quite easy with the starter switch removed and a jack with a hunk of wood on top to apply just a little upward pressure on the engine. That fraction of an inch made installat...

Starter Install....tips needed
Hi All, Lots of progress on getting TC1943 back on the road. Down to installing various bits and once carbs back from Joe Curto I'll be good to go. Help needed on any tips for reinstalling my rebuilt starter. Oh my gosh, what a pain so far and I have to believe I am missing something here. Removed i...

Re: Part Identification and function question
I asked about the under dash panel because my car has one. Looks pretty darn old but in quite good condition. It is in the way but hate to remove it as well even though that would make life easier. Fired it up today and headed out for first drives. Looks like I have a bit of a water leak from water ...

Re: Part Identification and function question
Hi All, A few days away from the house so out of touch. My carbs do in fact have aluminum pistons and no damper or spring. Completely new to me and I was in disbelief at first that this was a possibility. Was able to chat with Joe Curto about this and confirmed several things are in fact correct. I'...
