Re: tc wheel dims

mws order.JPG Same size as mine, 2 1/2" I ordered my Blockleys from Motor Wheel Service. They had good prices on spinners so I ordered a full set of those as well. 4.50 x 19 Blockley Tyres (100% Rubber) DoT plant code 0X2 TR13 Tube : 450/500 x 19 - Rubber Valve 100% Rubber Inner Tube with a Rubber ...

Re: GPS Speedo & Tach Info

Given the value of original instruments, my advice, should you decide to go this route, is to purchase replacement instruments and modify those. You might find that you can sell your originals and cover the cost.

Re: TC EXU Mirror

Mine is an import, having two screws about and inch and a quarter apart. Was this standard, or aftermarket? I'll be looking for a replacement soon.

Re: Trailering a TC

I used extra straps on the front and back of mine. It was pretty tight even after a 120 mile trip. I also used the tire straps which come with the trailer, but I didn't want to rely solely on them.

Re: Trailering a TC

I did the front axle as Steve suggests, can't remember how secured the rear IMG_5991.jpg Not the best picture, but it gives you an idea. Note, if you are renting from U-Haul, my TC barely fit on the tracks, so you might measure the trailer first. It worked, but I had to be extra careful loading and ...

I would also suggest joining a local MG club. Contact them and ask if any club member has a TC.

Re: What's it like to live with a MGTC?

I labored over the decision whether to purchase a TD or a TC. To a fault, almost everyone said go with the TD, saying it was a more modern drive, and their concerns were very valid. In the end, I just had to go with the TC, as it I find it to be a work of art, and had lusted after it since my high s...

I have to let the air out of the tires on the rear axle if I want to remove the wheels. Some friends with TC's have the same problem.
I have heard the same from others. At this point I should be good for a few years. New Blockleys installed.

I keep a piece of wood with a round hole through it in the TC. For jacking from under the differential. To protect the bottom drain plug. Works wonders.IMG_2138 (2).jpg
I do something similar with the bolts from the diving board in my pool when winterizing. Hurts when you step on them.

Re: Removing rear wheels

Please take care not to pinch the fuel line when jacking up there. At some time in the past someone squashed the pipe on my car. It only came to light when I renewed the fuel line. I bet the p/o had fuel starvation and couldn't work out why! Incidentally, I re routed the new pipe so it can't happen...

Re: Removing rear wheels

It is unclear to me what you mean by lifting by the chassis as opposed to lifting by the frame. Chassis and frame are the same thing. IMG_20210704_134030452.jpg The body tub is bolted to it. One should always place a jack under the chassis/frame, never under the body. The rear axle can certainly be...

Re: Removing rear wheels

Usually it's oversized tires that create a problem, mostly at the top. Angling the bottom outward as the wheel comes off is the usual workaround. It is possible for the axle to be out of position if the springs are aftermarket and not made correctly. The locating pin can be in the wrong place. To c...

Removing rear wheels

I've searched and seen others have had trouble removing their rear wheels (1949 TC), the issue being lack of clearance on the leading side (towards the front.) Some have said that the axle can be out of place. I can't imagine that being the case, having looked at mine. I don't even know how that cou...

Re: BMC Replacement engine

You'll get lots of differing opinions on fluids and other sundries. I've changed my own mind over the years as I've experimented and found better (in my opinion) products, My current choices are: Engine: Valvoline VR1 20W-50 Gearbox: Redline 75W-140 NS Rear Axle: Royal Purple 85W-140 or Redline 80W...

Re: BMC Replacement engine

Incidentally, you may or may not be aware that in England a "vintage" car is one that was built before 1931. Presumably this is not the case in America.? Interesting. From a registration standpoint, we usually refer to 'Antique' or 'Classic", meaning cars that are at least 25 years old. Th...

Re: BMC Replacement engine

Of the 3 plugs on the differential (drain, fill level, and filler plug on top) you want to be sure the vent in the filler plug is clear/open. If you can get a whole quart in there without overflowing at the fill level (open) plug, I will be surprised. Let us know. IMG_1478.JPG I was hoping to fill ...

Re: Lucas Directional Switch (turn signal)

Fixed. Also, I found a 30 amp fuse on the voltage regulator which was too long, so I wrapped a piece of aluminum on it until I can get replacements.

Root cause was loose wiring in the Lucas SD84 turn signal switch.

Re: Lucas Directional Switch (turn signal)

I have a reasonable expectation that I have re-wired it correctly by tracing the wires back to the Lucas DB10 relay. Back to diagnosing the problem. None of the turn signals work. I have front, rear, left and right. The suddenness of the failure lends me to think it is component related and not grou...
