I had the same Mirror & same problem...this one was from Moss.
also the Acorn nut is precariously close to the windscreen.
? how robust is wave washer ? would a split washer work ?

the outer (front) race of the double row ball pinion bearing can be pressed home by hand.
should i use some Loctite Bearing Fit #641 ?

waiting for shims to arrive...
is there a trick way to torque the pinion nut (100+lbs) on the bench ?

maybe shims should be marked > .010 +/- (more or less)...

the two .010 shims measured* .007. ( *Starrett micrometer )
the .002 shim was .002 .

will be reusing these ... seem ok ... no play & cages looked fine.

up date: got the pinion housing separated... with effort ... ( found permatex aircraft? gasket sealer, the hard stuff ) on the matting service. also under the pinion cap. now cleaning & awaiting parts... ? front pinion bearing . does the double row ball cage care witch side is out ? ? blue hylomar o...

I'm new to mg t-abc... ive had my 49 TC exu for about 10 years, and have gotten to the point i needed to change the pinion cap. no problem... using the Moss upgrade ... unfortunately the two guide pins are not reusable. does any one know of a source of those guide pins ? no luck with Moss,(the photo...
