Re: Fuel Tank to Wing Bolt and Bushing

Hi Tim,

That's what I ordered as pictured above. [#RU 150] But they really don't seem right. The ID of the hole is so much larger than the OD of the shaft on the bolt.

Fuel Tank to Wing Bolt and Bushing

So after much pondering I figured the best way to get the rear wheel opening correct on my tub would be to match it to the fender. [I can build the tub but I can't change the fender] Mine were missing so I ordered the tank to wing bushings from FTFU. [# RU 150] Well the ID of the bush is 5/8" and th...

Re: TC Cycle Fender Bushings and Bolts

R, "I have very similar brackets on my TC and they were also sourced from AU." Did you buy them recently, like in the last few months? I bought mine from Grant on "British Classic" Buy, Swap, Sell. He had a set like what you have and I was the second person to reply, missing out on them. The type yo...

Re: TC Cycle Fender Bushings and Bolts

Success! Luigi on MG Experience sent me a link for Pre-War.com. They have the bolts I was looking for alone with the rubber bushes. https://www.prewarcar.com/310429-mg-chrome-plated-mushroom-headed-wing-fixing-bolts They responded to me in a timely manner and the bolts and rubber bushes are ordered....

Re: TC Cycle Fender Bushings and Bolts

Franz, I got a lead on a guy in Virginia that does scanning, modeling and casting. Not sure if I would get possession of the file or not. It's going to be a little tricky as I'll probably end up with only one good side, but once scanned I can't see why it couldn't be reversed to make the pattern for...

Re: TC Cycle Fender Bushings and Bolts

Thanks Steve, I received a suggestion to reach out to Richard Hardy at "Vintage MG Parts" in the UK. They specialize in J-Type. http://www.vintagemgparts.com I didn't see them on their site so I made an inquiry. In the meantime if anyone knows of a stateside source. I've not gotten much MG work done...

TC Cycle Fender Bushings and Bolts

I obtained a set of aluminum cycle fender brackets from a collector in AU. They're pretty neat with a nice airfoil shape. IMG_7532.jpeg IMG_7533.jpeg IMG_7534.jpeg They are frame mount and install where the original bracket was located. First off, does anyone recognize them, as to year/model? I was ...

Re: TA Body Tub Timber Construction Pictures

Rob, I have both books [TC's Forever and TC Forever More]and to be honest I don't find them easy to digest. Some of the issue I think is with someone like Mike, who is really knowledgeable about a subject, there's a tendency to make some assumptions others are as well and he sometimes forgets that s...

Re: TA Body Tub Timber Construction Pictures

I eat all of those things! I saw where you were a mechanical engineer/designer. Same as my dad and my oldest son. I would probably be one as well except that "math gene" appeared to have skipped me. It all worked out though, I satisfied those yearnings after work in the shop. Retired now so full tim...

Re: TA Body Tub Timber Construction Pictures

Making good progress! I've stalled a little helping a less mechanical inclined friend recommission a 1961 CJ-5. It's a fun project but taking a bit more time than I had planned on. As far as which to bend first, I would lean toward the door opening. But that may depend on how much excess material th...

Re: Hinge Pillar Height question.

Thanks Rob. The "guru", [TC Forever More] says 14 1/4". I'm a hair more than 14". The timbers from Craig Seabrook have been pretty decent [but the doors did take some fiddling]. On the hinge pillars I put the notch in the lower part against the main timber, but noticed I had about 3/16, [just what I...

Re: TA Body Tub Timber Construction Pictures

Next, how is the rubber strip attached to the timber? Nails, screws, glue? I have no clue if this is "correct" as I've come to the conclusion a number of fingers have been in this pie. But the rubber on mine was attached by what appear to be #14 upholstery tacks. As I recall they were about 2" apart...

Re: TA Body Tub Timber Construction Pictures

Tim, I think it's a good suggestion to use the outer fenders to determine the radius of the tub timbers. They are the least able to be modified. In TC Forever Mike mentions using the inners as part of the tub construction procedure but later mentions using the outer fenders to check the fit at the r...

Re: TA Body Tub Timber Construction Pictures

Tim, That's along the lines of the direction I'm headed. I had already made repairs to my inners to fit the old tub better and I think to fit the new tub I may have to trim some width at the wheel opening in some places and add a little metal to make it wider in others. I started holding the quarter...

Re: TC Forever More Tub Frame Modification and Tub Build

Posted here for continuity;Trying to get everything "just right" as I've learned over the years that errors, if ignored, seem to compound themselves. I thought I had the hinge pillars exactly right [working out of TC Forever] then looked at TC Forever More for a measurement and noticed a hinge pilla...

Re: TC Forever More Tub Frame Modification and Tub Build

Moving forward, more or less. After getting the doors as close as possible before fitting I moved onto the tub. First getting the hinge timbers clamped on at 90 degrees to the Bottom Main Side Rail. then checking across the top for 45 1/2 where the Bulls horn meets. And 42" at the bottom where the H...

Re: TA Body Tub Timber Construction Pictures

Rob J, I have not attempted to fit my inner rear fenders, as they have quite a lot of little rust holes and will need a lot of patch welding. But thanks for the tip. I'm having a little trouble fitting the timber across the top of the wheel, [it's not level which I think it's supposed to be]. It see...

Re: TA Body Tub Timber Construction Pictures

Hi Rob, I just printed out your photo of the hinge timber and the wheel arch and it's beautiful. [sorry Rob, the ones I printed are from Mick Bibby's photos] But still beautiful. I'm working in that direction but in TC Forever Mike mentions holding the "inner guards" [inner fenders] in place. I had ...
