Gene, Thanks for your early response and suggestion. I am sorry to say that the frustration continues, although I am now pretty sure that the oil pump did not prime. Having decided this I pumped oil through the engine via a pressure tank. This shows oil through the Rockers and overhead gear, as well...

Julian, on page 60 of Mike's book he states that the brass base changed to alloy around TC4407.
Sorry I misread your post. I was referring to the bodies of the carburettors themselves. these were common on TA's as I have already mentioned.
