Re: TA Body Tub Timber Construction Pictures

I had to buy new quarter panels too. I kept the old rusty ones to use as a guide. Doug does warn you that the new quarters will need massaging, a fair amount in my case. Again, I used the outer fender as datum, bent the quarters to match fender circle (and the wood frame). The door slots needed adju...

Re: TA Body Tub Timber Construction Pictures

Rob and Rob, I completed my TB last year. I worked through similar issues. I decided to use the outside fenders to shape the wood. Any small imperfections would be covered by the trim. The inner fenders were purchased new as old ones were just rusted away. I had to make minor and major surgery (weld...

Re: Toe in adjustment method

Another 1 person operation. Put a stick pin in the tread, forward most part of the two front tires. Tape measure the distance. Roll the car backwards one half revolution. Measure between the 2 pins. Delta is the toe. In reality, you probably can't get the pins half way up the tire, you have to posit...

Re: Carb Thread Repair

Thank you Steve. I have reached out to Joe and Doug. I'll hear from them after the holidays. I have used Butch too. All three are craftsmen. I am thinking I can handle this repair. You gave me confirmation on thread size. I ordered a 7/16-18 bsf helicoil (EZLoc). Not a common size. I'll deal with it...

Re: Carb Thread Repair

Good point Duncan. I'll nix the dowty washer. You state it is designed to be moveable; interesting concept. I would adjust float level by the forks, and/or washers if using grose style needle and seat. I do know some try rotating the float chamber to prevent overheating. This rotation may change the...

Carb Thread Repair

I managed to strip the internal threads of H2 carb, body 3578, where the bottom bolt securing the float bowl screws in. What is the thread size? My best guess is 7/16" 18 tpi Bsp. Is a helicoil thread insert the best solution? Is a helicoil insert even made for pipe thread? I imagine straight thread...

Completed Restoration TB 0613

The 5 year journey is complete. (Not really, I still tinker with stuff as I learn). Many thanks to this forum and particularly to those that step out there with advice and opinions. I used it all. Long story short, TB0613 was purchased by Dad for Mom 1968 while stationed at High Wycombe, (Dawes Hill...

Re: TA Body Tub Timber Construction Pictures

Rob, suggestion: Go to the Moss Motors UK site. It will show exploded views of both TC timbers and TA/TB timbers. You can cross reference by part number which timbers interchange and which ones do not. I also suggest printing the TC exploded view by Abingdon Spares. The pic and descriptions are a li...

Re: TA/TB Scuttle Holes

Rob and Bill, thank you for the replies. I'll add a note to the small double p-clip that the left clip is for the choke/mixture cable. My TB scuttle had a single p-clip close to the center for the starter cable. Very clean looking. Unfortunately, I did not take a picture. I'll do so now after the re...

TA/TB Scuttle Holes

Good day. This topic may be of interest to TA and TB'ers on minutae. Proper clips and holes in the scuttle. The topic has been touched on, but I am seeking a little more knowledge. Attached is a picture of a drawing that was posted by a Mr Ian Linton back in 2016. Mr. Malcolm Green's book also drew ...

Re: Front fender mounting

Short answer is yes. You may vary the thickness of the pad so your front fenders sit proud. If you don't put a pad between the fender and brace, you may get that tired, droopy look.

Bowden Cable Routing TA/TB

How are the three bowden cables, tach and speedo cables run from behind the dash thru clips mounted on underside of the scuttle? I know how each pass thru the scuttle or kickplate as they enter the engine compartment but am very unsure of the routing within the cockpit. I have a good accounting of t...

Dash Electrical Sockets

I am laughing at myself, total ignoramus. This is for a TB with positive ground. The two sockets in the dash panel, does the red one go on the left or right hole? Is the red one grounded with continuity to the metal dash panel? Is the red one hooked up to circuit #33 black wire or circuit #13 yellow...

Re: TB Trim-Side Screen Strap(s)

Thank you Tom and Bill. Two straps with lift-a-dot snap and stud attached to both side fillets it shall be. Bill, I like your website. Folding of the straps is a nice find too. The diff plywood is stained black. I had heard from different sources it was covered with a rubber mat but have never been ...

TB Trim-Side Screen Strap(s)

Do TA and TB have 2 straps to hold the side screen door closed? TC is well known having 1 snap, centered, to attach to snap or tanax stud on top of top cover. I have seen pictures of TB having 2 straps but attached sideways to the side fillets or two straps attached to the top cover. Both are tanax ...

Rob, I looked at your pic again. You still had black felt on the underside of the lid. The pic also answered a question I never asked: if the center hinge wood had felt too. Yours did not. Thanks for posting the pic.

Re: TA Tool Box Lids

Good day Rob. My TB had the lids with square nuts too. I was able to use pliers to turn the nuts off by using a gun style screwdriver on screw head. The screw threads were soft enough to pull through. They may have been brass come to think of it. Not sure why they were peened but someone suggested a...

Rubber, bonnet to cowl

Easy questions, what type and size screws hold the rubber to the cowl which the bonnet rests on? Oval head screws without washers? Distance between screws?
I threw the old rubber away before measuring the distances.
