Re: MG TC 1945

Fillep, You need to buy 'MGs On Patrol' by Andrea Green, apart from a lot of info on MG Police cars it has a picture of your car on page 75! The only difference on my TA is that the rotary switches for spot light and panel lights are replaced by pull switches, presumably easier to operate while wear...

Re: MG TC 1945

TC0281 was purchased by Oxford City Police and had the original registration JJO 722.

It appears to be only the second TC to be bought by the Police, the only earlier one is TC0280 JJO 721 so well worth restoring.

I have an ex Lancashire Police TA.

Re: wheel turns to sort low reading speedo?

Speedograph Richfield will recalibrate a chronometric speedo, I also have a type 9 gearbox and the speedometer is within a couple of miles per hour. The info they need is on their web site.

As Steve says the tacho and speedo only read every second or so.

Re: TA fuel Tank outlet

Yes the TA has a selector on the dash - it does mean that you don't need the extra copper pipe from the tank or the changeover valve - you get the low fuel warning instead.

Re: Vapor lock

If you search for SU Carb adjustment you will find plenty of info and diagrams:

http://www.mgexp.com/article/su-tune.html

As previously suggested disconnect the feed to the carbs and check that the pump is delivering fuel.

Re: TA fuel Tank outlet

Mine was on the outlet nearer the centre but the important thing is to connect the reserve to the outlet with the filter. The main goes to the pipe which is a couple of gallons above the bottom of the tank, they can be seen with difficulty using a torch through the filler.

Re: Five speed gearbox speedo correction

I have a type 9 gearbox and had the speedo head recalibrated - by Speedograph Richfield!

Very accurate compared to GPS.

Re: TC Luvax Girling Damper Question

I would certainly recommend Raj (he does the ones for Moss) and his workshop is worth seeing!

He did my Luvax dampers.

I would suggest if you can move them by hand they probably aren't doing anything.

Re: Introduction, another new TC owner

Yes the key should turn, the key number should be on the face of the ignition barrel so easy to check if you have the correct one. And no, the front filler panel (splash apron) should be steel. A fibreglass one came with my TA together with two metal ones, shipping to the States would be a bit expen...

Re: TA Battery Replacement

I agree with the previous suggestions - most likely is high resistance joint between the battery and starter motor or a failed battery (was it left untouched and unrecharged while you rebuilt the engine) I use a Bosch type 063 12v battery with a tool box on the other side, far more use that a dead 6...

Re: Let's talk about the TB for a few minutes!

Mine is about 150mm (6 inches if you prefer) from the right hand end but of course the important part is that the control rod need to line up with the slot in the bulkhead.
