Re: Tach drive cable

I wonder if someone made up this armour cable....it seems about an inch short.

Tach drive cable

As I work on details of completing TC8126, I installed the tach drive cable to the drive on the rear of the generator. But when I get the the tach side, the inner cable is extending about 1-1/2'' beyond the end of the outer cable fitting. Could this be correct? I doubt the inner cable is incorrect t...

Re: Regulator getting hot

Thanks for the tips. One thing I'm wondering, since I assembled TC8126 as a project and wired the harness from scratch, is that their could either be a short or a wire crossed that is resulting in the hot regulator. Everything electrical functions, I'm thinking it may be one of the accessory termina...

Re: Regulator getting hot

Ok, thanks.

Is there a way to check functionality with a 12v power supply?

Regulator getting hot

Should my voltage regulator get hit to the touch during normal running?

Odd question, but maybe someone could put a hand on theirs while the engine has been running a while; I'm finishing up my restoration but don't want to venture too far if this us a potential hazard.

Thanks

Re: ‘48 MG TC

I would guess that is a respray. My TC had never had the scuttle removed, and was bare wood underneath, with some very thin black paint (almost like black ink) that that had crept underneath, which I noticed in other original wood pieces, which may have been a sort of factory primer (but not applied...

Re: Front fender fit with tub

Thanks Ray, Good Advice. As I bought my TC disassembled, I didn't have any previous references. So over the last ten years whenever a TC was advertised, I captured as many images as I could to use as an assembly guide. After reviewing underfender shots, I see many have the same nominal issue in gett...

Re: Front fender fit with tub

Thanks Ray, it looks like just an additional rubber strip between the fender welting and the fender in that area will fill the gap, I don't want to risk anything at this stage over a rather small Issue. Hard to believe anything gets as close as it does with factory hand formed fenders... Thanks Mark

Front fender fit with tub

I have the front fenders on, with the running boards clamped in position on the tub. I have a bit of a gap at the flat section of the inside of the fender where it fits up against the front outside of the tub with the three screws (although my original tub only had a screw in the front hole, into th...

Re: Removing rear wheels

I put together a short length of 2 x 4 with blocks on each end that act as standoffs to engage the frame rails, leaving the 2 x 4 itself a few inches below the exhaust pipe and fuel line.

Update: Re: Front fender mounting

Since I figured I had nothing to lose, I made a cut 3/4 across the width of the bracket (which is hollow) just inside of where the headlight mounting boss is located. I figured this would allow some flexibility over just heating it and bending and hoping for the best. Clamped in a heavy vice, was ab...

Re: Front fender mounting

Thanks, Steve, The left side that doesn't line up is clearly offset much more that the right, which does fit nicely with its minor offset. As purchased, they had beautiful green paint on them but appeared to have never been used, so maybe they're reproductions that couldn't be used on that car, eith...

Re: Front fender mounting

Well this explains it. Bought these from O'connor classics many years ago, not from my car as mine were missing. Maybe the factory tweaked it like that, hard to see any indication of a hit. Would anyone have a pair, or just the Left (passenger side)? I am thinking there should be a bit of forward of...

Re: Front fender mounting

HI, Steve-

If only...

Those bolts are shouldered to keep from over-compressing slot cut in them when tightened and so will only fit one way.

I'll take a fresh look now that the fenders are in place.

Re: Front fender mounting

And here it is. Only concern is I had to switch the headlamp brackets to get the fender to fit flush against the brackets, and now the chrome bolts at the rad have the nut in front...Any thoughts on that?? Thanks for the help, cant believe I brought this car home in pieces in July, 1999 and suddenly...

Re: Front fender mounting

Thanks Pete So obvious now that you explained it so clearly! It helps too now that I've now pulled the front wing lamps out of the box they have been in (and out of mind) for many years. Should be an interesting weekend, the first time the front fenders have been on since 1962 (when I was two years ...

Re: Front fender mounting

Thanks Peter,

Got the plates. I am assuming there is a single bolt that goes thru the top of the brace, thru the under pad plate, and thru the fender....

Isn't that bolt blocking the mounting of the wing lamp?

Sorry for missing what is probably obvious!

Front fender mounting

After the world's longest tub rebuild And the last year of driving around with rear fenders only, I am finally moving in to assembling my front fenders to the tub. I know the best way to do this is to preassemble the front fender To the running board and offer it up as a complete assembly. So 1st qu...

Thanks Aaron

I don't know if any of the phone app payment methods are being used, but probably not. Old car guys are mostly old school.
