Re: Five speed gearbox speedo correction

Eventually Speedograph Richfield found the problem after I sent them my speedo and my cable. Their persistence is admirable. I kept telling them that when I put my cable on without the correcting box everything worked fine so it must be the box! What it turned out to be was the square end my cable w...

Re: Touring TC

Here is my checklist I forgot the socket extension bar and it was on the list! Feel free to suggest other bits as we will be going again. (don't say half shafts :) ) Of course the unexpected happened and the journey ended with damaged half shaft and oil in the drums. We did over 1000 miles before th...

Re: Hub to half shaft weld broken

I've just had a call from the recovery insurance company who said they are using this company to bring the car home http://cmg-org.com/european-solutions/ They look rather professional :)

I've left the manual in the car together with all the tools and spare parts as I couldn't carry any of it.

Re: Hub to half shaft weld broken

I checked my owners manual and could not see any reference to the level plug so I'm fairly sure we put to much in which would have contributed to the problem. Another lesson learnt. I'm writing this from home having contacted the insurance who were in my opinion far too quick say we will take you an...

Re: Hub to half shaft weld broken

I've decided to correct the breakdown people tomorrow because that is why I have it. I've translated the following into Italian ready for them. There is oil in the brake drum and the half shaft is damaged. Both rear brakes have stopped working so I think there is oil in both brakes. It needs two new...

Re: Hub to half shaft weld broken

Thanks for the good advice. I have found Rogers price list and will get the parts to do both sides along with new shoes. I'm still undecided about using the rescue people to get the ball rolling for me as my insurance will cover cost of freight and our accommodation while we wait. The downside is th...

Re: Hub to half shaft weld broken

Thanks for the above post. I'm now understand what must be done. I now need to decide if I should kick into gear the euro breakdown cover or just go to a local garage here in northern Italy and try to explain then wait. Do you remember who supplied the parts, was it Moss? Do you have any part number...

Re: Hub to half sheet weld broken

If you remove the spinner empty the oil and look inside I see the end of a shaft with weld which has come away. I think the oil in the drum must have come from where the four bolts hold the assembly together. I'm saying that because I can't think of any other way for it to get there? I'm open to sug...

Hub to half shaft weld broken

I'm stuck in Italy on my way to Malta and after being told by two drivers my wheel is wobbling I decided to take a look. I'm near the end of St Bernard pass (having just gone over it from Switzerland) not far from Aosta. I can wobble the wheel a quarter of an inch when the car is jacked up. When I r...

Touring TC

A few month ago I posted a question asking for help about what to take on a long trip. I am very thankful to those who answered and it helped a lot in thinking about what to take. Now our journey has begun and I will post a list of what I ended up taking in the next few days. If anyone is interested...

Re: Five speed gearbox speedo correction

I calculated that if I leave the uncorrected speedo as it is then roughly 140 miles shown on the speedo equals 210 actual so I can use that to tell me its time to fill up. The sat nav can tell me my speed. I made a dip stick out of a very small plastic funnel and a bakelite rod and the light on the ...

Five speed gearbox speedo correction

My TC has a ford type 9 gearbox. I bought a small speedometer ratio correcting gearbox from Speedograph Richfield which goes on the car end of the cable and it has a ratio worked out to correct the roughly 50% slow error the speedo shows without it. Unfortunately it keep snapping the cable of this s...

Re: Long distance touring

I've ordered the rubber boot for the peddles. It's great to see so much still available for these cars.
Today I mounted the sat nav on the tunnel propped up just below the gear lever.

Re: Long distance touring

I love that picture Dirk!
A question. When it rains does water come up through the hole in the floor where the pedals are?
I think I'll find a way to block it a bit just in case.

Re: Long distance touring

Thanks Julian,
The car will have over 1000 miles on the rebuilt engine before we set off. I do have Europe wide breakdown cover and I will be sure to take Brown and Gammons number.

Re: Long distance touring

I am an Englishman. so I will take a spare dizzy. I've go one that came with the car. It's an electronic device I think it's called a 123 I didn't put it on because the standard one had been restored and works perfectly so if it ain't broke.... I'll read up how to fit it just in case. Re: Long distance touring

I thought of something else. I'll be traveling into temperatures of up to 35c or 95f should I worry about overheating. I've ordered an MGB seven blade fan. Should that be enough?

Re: Long distance touring

Thanks Steve,
I've never used the side screens and only had the top up once and was glad to have had a hat on on a bumpy road!
Why do you consider front side screens not good?
I did notice the wipers are painfully slow.
Thanks again

Re: Long distance touring

Thanks Ian, I've show your message to 'She who will Nagivate' and she will get the sun block, first aid kit. The spare wheel has a new tyre, nevertheless I I've ordered a tube and will take my tyre levers. I'll set the sat nav to show my speed in kph and find somewhere to mount it out of the direct ...

Long distance touring

Hello, In about five weeks time my wife and I are taking my TC from our home in Suffolk UK to France heading south crossing Switzerland and over the alps into Italy. We then intend to continue south all the way down Italy getting the ferry to Sicily which we will tour for a few days before getting a...
