MG TA restoration info needed
MG TA restoration info needed
Hi
I'm trying to guide a friend on a TA project. He has no real experience on MG. I have completed a !933 J2 and a few TD. So my time on this model is limited. I believe the car has a Morris MPJM block. I think the head is correct.
The majority of the work was done by the previous owner. We know a lot of it is incorrectly done.
Item 1 Can a set of TC shocks be easily installed on the TA?
item 2 Are the tachometer and speedometer the same as the early TD?
Item 3 A source for the fuel valve on the fire wall? I think S&V in the UK might have them.
Item 4 Photo of how the slow run cable hooks up.
Item 5 Need complete air cleaner.
Item 6 What is the correct horn? Photo would be great.
Item 7 Needs the oil fillet conversion kit. Who supplies this.
Item 8 A photo of the carburetors installed with air cleaner removed.
Item 9 Is the generator the same as the TC? Is it a three brush style like the MMM models?
Item 10 Do we have a source for TA parts?
Item 11 Are the headlights the same 140 on the MMM. I know the TC have a different front chrome rim.
Last Item for now. Besides the Blower Manual & MG T Series Restoration Guide. What books should we be looking for to help in this project.
Thanks
Gary

Re: MG TA restoration info needed
I don't know the TA specifics as well as others here, but there is another book called Original T-Series that has a lot of detail on these cars. Might be worth a look.
I believe the horn is the same as TC. The headlamps will have solenoid-operated dipping reflectors, same as on TB. Generator is a 3-brush type. Depending on where in the world you are, there are a few sources for the spin-on filter conversion. Butch Taras in California, Bob Grunau in Canada and if I'm not mistaken Roger Furneaux in the UK.

Re: MG TA restoration info needed
Doug Pelton has my reserve fuel tap & is having it reproduced.
Mick Pay in the U.K. has the early & late filter conversion.
I have repro air filter canister that is smaller, if interested.
Any other ? Jan/Cincinnati

Hi Jan
Since the car is a friend I will need to discuss the air filter you have with him. He also need the air intake manifold that the air filter hooks to.
Thanks
