A viable alternative to the stock shock bushings
A viable alternative to the stock shock bushings
Attached is a PDF with step by step instructions on how to make your own shock link bushings at little cost.
Thanks goes to a list member who gave me the idea, and with his approval I documented the process in hopes I can help others out that have the same problems with the stock bushings I did - they push out when the shock link pushes in!

I've used a nylon bar and turned it down to size to be a tight fit in the link. Then drill through to take the "peg". The Nylon will give a bit of flex and, like your hydraulic hose is much easier to fit.
However you do need a lathe to make the bush from a Nylon bar.

You likely will need to add a washer and cotter as there is a tendency for the bushing to walk with suspension movement over time. A bit of a squeeze, but they will go on.

I'll keep an eye on them. It'll be easy to drill them and fit, what we call, a split pin.

I have used a hose clamp to compress the bushings for insertion. Works great.

Re: A viable alternative to the stock shock bushings
Norman, I got 6 in without a problem but the inside of the arm on the 4th shocker is badly rusted. I've cleaned it but the metal is badly pitted and the rubber is catching on the rough surface and ends up going in sideways.
I'l be waiting for the bodyshop for a month or so and may take the opportunity to replace the others with the nylon bushing, I don't usually fix things that aren't broken but I do like consistency.

I have been buying Delrin rod it seems better suited for the application in the correct dia cutting it off and drilling a hole. I don't remember the diameters

Norman, try a flex hone to clean the inside of that arm. Works well.

I did clean it with emery cloth. It's so much easier with the nylon bush. It's how they would be if they were making the car today.
