Low fuel warning lamp

Post by Jelly » Mon Nov 09, 2015 6:42 pm

The plastic "fuel" indicator in my lamp is a very strange shape - see pictures below. I assume this isn't usual!
Any ideas on how to get it flat again? I've tried heating with a hairdryer with a view to then putting it under a weight while it sets again, but that doesn't seem to have helped.

Oh my! I wonder if a hot iron would do the trick. I would worry about it sticking though.

Heat gun might reduce sticking by 1/2.

I had the same problem. I bought a small sheet of clear 1mm thick acetate sheet and cut a circle out the same size as the Fuel insert. Then I printed in 24 font Cambri the word FUEL on a printable sheet of clear computer acetate with a circle of dark green behind. Thus the word FUEL shows up in clear. I then cut out a circle of this with the word FUEL in the centre and put this in front of the 1mm circle of acetate in the fitting. It is best to get heat resistant acetate sheeting as the bulb will get warm. The 1mm sheet is stiff so it holds the flimsy computer acetate sheet tight against the chrome front fitting

Regards

Thanks Nick, that sounds like it might be the best solution. Before I do that, I think I'll try putting it in the oven on an increasing heat until it softens enough for the plastic to flatten again. Don't have a heat gun handy, Duncan!
