TC Front Wing Support

I'm having trouble understanding how the front wing support and headlight bracket fits together. When I bolt the wing support to the chassis then try to bolt the headlight bracket thru the wing and support there is a gap between the support and bracket caused by the shoulder on the headlight bracket studs. It just doesn't seem right that the headlight bracket wouldn't fit into the slots on the wing bracket. What am I missing? Is it that way so the wing bracket is held away from the wing?

Difficult to understand the problem other than there is a thick rubber joint on the wing side. Fit the wing stay and the headlamp bracket is easy to fit, it's self explanatory, if you see what I mean.

The gap in the circle is what's confusing me. I understand there a rubber seal on the top side of the wing under the headlight bracket, I'm questioning how the headlight bracket 'mates' to the wing/chassis bracket. Is the shoulder on the stud there to keep the bracket away from the wing? If so, mine doesn't fit very well. Why?

I think the rubber grommet takes up that thickness. I'll take a look on Monday, not allowed in the workshop at the moment

I went out and checked mine, but they are all using regular bolts, not shouldered studs. So no help from me, sorry!

The studs on the bottom of the headlight support don't have studs with a shoulder?

Mine are off currently and I can confirm they have the same studs with spacers. I suspect the rubber takes this up, and the top fit at the fender light would be the tighter of the two intersecting points between the fender and this inner support.

Because mine are bolts doesn't mean that was original. As far as I know, studs are correct. Even after all these years I still find things that were done incorrectly on my TC by the previous owners.

I now see there are 2 rubber pads used on the headlight bracket to the wing. The one on the top side of the wing where the headlight bracket sits on the wing and the one I didn't know about, the thicker one on the bottom side of the wing. I now understand what frenchblatter talked about in his response. I think it's time for another order for some needed parts. Thanks all for your input!

The Moss site is where I saw there is a lower pad required. That should surely fill the gap. I've already started a list of parts I need to continue on, As I'm still in the mock up stage and the parts are in primer paint I have time for the parts delivery. No rush, just trying to have fun! My TA has through bolts rather that those studs, but I have seen this stud idea on Jaguars, and they use either a very thick large diameter washer or a cup shaped washer, the idea being to spread the load out to a larger radius and minimize damage to the body panel due to flexing of the chrome part.
