Bonnet tape
Bonnet tape
Please can someone tell me if the TC bonnet tape should go on in one piece or is there a gap in the middle at the top for the bonnet strip supports?

Re: Bonnet tape
Hi Ray, i'm pretty sure the tape wraps across the top in one piece; I've always fitted them that way. There is a small benefit in that the tape underneath the top hinge also covers the ends of the screws and perhaps keepng things in place without movement/vibration marks to the shell. Yes, tricky to fit the screws and nuts but with a little patience.

Re: Bonnet tape
Thank you for that, Chris.
I am having a constant battle with the legacy of the last owner who thought nothing of forcing UNF, 1.5 Metric or whatever fixings were to hand in place of BSF or mad metrics. The flat chromed brass pieces (that fit in the sides of the rad) and which should have 1/4" BSF bolts are a case in point. The trouble with stripped threads in these is that you can't get a wrench to a nut if you go down the route of fitting a longer bolt. I am reluctant to cut a new, bigger thread and have to decide whether to weld a captive 1/4" BSF nut to the back of the bracket or fill the hole with braze and start from scratch. Unfortunately, I have just had these pieces re plated !
