Converting to Halogen

Post by jddevel » Wed Nov 10, 2021 8:36 am

What adapters are available\recommended for a TC headlamp to convert to halogen. Have discovered that the existing bulb holder in one light has been crudely repaired.

Also, What about converting to LED, which seems like a better option for our ancient dynamos?

I have recently bought some Halogen bulbs to fit in place of the original incandescent bulbs. The high wattage bulbs I was seeking are no longer available but the 35/40 watt bulbs should be adequate for my needs as they are far brighter than the original. I also bought some new (reproduction) bulb holders but unfortunately they will not fit in the original reflectors. As the method of adjustment is to move the holder in or out of the reflector they need to be a reasonable fit. I will need to solder the new innards into the original holders.

I understand that LEDs - while excellent for stop/tail lights - have a poor beam scatter when used with conventional reflectors. Current supply should not be a problem in my case as I have fitted a 45 amp Dynamater (alternator)
