Ray, I did not say anything about stainless, but I imagine a stainless tank lined with the epoxy coating would make the tank protected from chemicals that react with stainless. For an old used steel petrol tank from a T Type, the preparation they (Tapox) require would not be possible, except for a new steel tank. The other reason to line a SS tank would be if the SS used to make the tank was of an inferior SS grade.
So Sorry Duncan. My mistake. I mis read your post.

I calculated that there was little difference between a new steel tank treated with sealant and a new stainless steel tank that I thought would be fit and forget. Ironically, I am glad I mistakenly asked you about treating a stainless tank because you have given me food for thought. I wonder how Stainless steel behaves when in contact with E15 for any length of time. I expect it is mentioned in Paul Ireland's book.

Ray, I do recall a few years back there was a lot of discussion on a certain source of SS t-type tanks with bad weld areas. SS can be tricky to properly weld, unless the fabricators specialize in only SS. Easily contaminated, etc. I did not follow that conversation very closely, and do not recall who had the bad SS tanks.

Goodness!! You are a mine of information, Duncan.!

I will be sure to ask the suppliers if the SS tanks have a proven track record.

I won't pretend that splashing out on a new tank is not a difficult financial choice but from the look of it my tank may be unsafe. An old one will be rusty unless it comes from a warm climate and the shipping and import duties are crippling. At least if I have a problem with a new tank I can send it back.!
