TC tank straps

Am I correct in thinking that the fuel tank straps on a 1949 TC should be body colour? I have seen numerous cars with these in chrome finish and just wondered if it was a factory option or maybe an export feature?

Tank straps were never chromed from the factory and were always painted body colour. As you surmise, some owners see them as an aesthetic upgrade (bling). Many of the current parts suppliers now supply them as an option (usually with low grade chrome plating)

Personally, I can think of other things that need money spent on them.
