TB Trim-Side Screen Strap(s)

Post by ferricsteed » Mon Mar 27, 2023 3:03 am

Do TA and TB have 2 straps to hold the side screen door closed? TC is well known having 1 snap, centered, to attach to snap or tanax stud on top of top cover. I have seen pictures of TB having 2 straps but attached sideways to the side fillets or two straps attached to the top cover. Both are tanax snaps?
Note, this is for a much later TB with TC style seatback brackets riveted to top of wheel arches a là TC, if that would make a difference.
Secondary question, was the differential cover bare wood or covered with a rubber mat? Most TC I have seen, this is carpeted. If rubber mat, was it of generic unadorned commerial mat or was it similar to a "front door mat" finished with a rectangular border? I have not been able to review a picture of this area.

Thank you in advance,

Hello Tim,
I’ve not seen any photos of TAs with 2 straps but did correspond with a fellow in NZ who thought he had an original set of screens for a TB. His images only showed a single strap. The jury is out on whether they were indeed original.
The Rexine door panels on my TA are original and there is only one snap for the side screen strap.

I believe the shelf over the rear axle on the TA (and probably TB also) was simply painted wood. However, in the TA/TB Service Parts List under Floorboards and Carpets there is this; B220/190 Rubber Matt ... [quantity] 1. There’s no photo shown so it’s unclear if this is one of the small ‘matts’ with the MG logo which sits under the driver’s heels or something else.
Regards,
Bill

Tim - the side curtain storage box door had a strap on each side of the door, centered midway up, to hold the door closed. Strap was same size as used on TC, with a LTD snap and stud as the closing hardware.

Ahhh, that door.
Sorry, Tim, for the misunderstanding. And thanks for clearing it up Tom. (I think I’ve seen that image!) :)
There’s also a diagram showing how they were folded here: http://www.billdavis.org/MGTA/Original.html
Cheers,
Bill

Thank you Tom and Bill. Two straps with lift-a-dot snap and stud attached to both side fillets it shall be. Bill, I like your website. Folding of the straps is a nice find too.
The diff plywood is stained black. I had heard from different sources it was covered with a rubber mat but have never been able to see a pic of this mat. I'll keep my eye open and post if I ever do find one.
Just for grins, I keep a 3" thick foam pad, upholstered, to throw back there when giving tours to great grandkids.
Gotta keep the car fun!
