Looking for Shorrock supercharger carb pictures
Is there anyone out there that has or can take some close-in pictures of the SU carb setup on a Shorrock supercharger?
My carb is missing most of the external bits such as the jet lever, throttle control, etc. There are no pictures that
I can find that show in detail how these parts are arranged.
Thanks,
Dave '46 MG-TC 0524

You should be able to find everything on this very site.
Try here:http://www.mg-tabc.org/supercharger/Sho ... arging.pdf
Including this document: http://www.mg-tabc.org/supercharger/Sho ... arging.pdf
And also some photos and info here: https://www.mg-cars.org.uk/mgtd/mgtd_ac ... argers.htm

Re: Looking for Shorrock supercharger carb pictures
Thanks for the links Steve. I've seen those before and there is little about an XPAG installation. It seems that the bulk of the
information is aimed at the A series engine. I've just looked at a couple of pictures on installs on TDs and the carb linkage is
quite different between them. I guess the only thing to do is to bolt stuff up, see what doesn't fit, and rearrange as required.

Hi Dave,
Have you sorted out the carb setup yet for the shorrock?
I am running a TC with a shorrock c75 on and a 1.1/2 inch su.
If I can help please let me know.
John

Re: Looking for Shorrock supercharger carb pictures
Hi John,
Thanks for the offer. I've got the shorrock stripped down to replace the trunnions and do some helicoil repair on the carb and intake ports. I've received several photos of carb arrangements on the XPAG and no two are the same. Some have the throttle linkage on the engine side of the carb shaft and some on the bonnet side. I'll just need to put everything together and see what fits.
Do you have any provision for a fast idle choke linkage or slow running control? If you have any close up pictures of your carb setup I'd like to see them.
Regards,
Dave TC0524

Hi Dave,
Here are a couple of photos of the slow running and choke setups the choke arms were extended to reduce the cable load

Re: Looking for Shorrock supercharger carb pictures
Thanks John,
Great pictures. Do you have any idea where that slow running arm came from? Looks like just what I need.
It's amazing at the differences between Shorrock units. My unit has no photo etched serial number plate on the rear and no screw holes to attach one. Where you have SHORROCK cast into the center section mine is blank. I have no serial number except a 56/2 stamped on the front end plate that doesn't appear similar to any other serial numbers. The front extension on mine is fixed by a ring of eight studs where most other units have three studs.
Tracking the history of these devices is a challenge.
Thanks again and if you have other pictures I'd like to see them.

Hi again,
Since you were so kind to post your photos I thought I would post one of my work in progress.
I think I have more work to do.

Re: Looking for Shorrock supercharger carb pictures
Hi Dave,
The slow running arm was made up from pieces of brass and silver soldered together with a solderless nipple
to clamp the cable.
Your s/c should be as good as new.
Mine has got a bit of wear inside so I tend to keep slow running to 1000rpm (a bit noisy below)
I have got a problem at the moment with oil ,I am using the "b" pin and the motor runs well but on standing quite a bit of oil drains back to the su carb making restarts difficult and smokey (the carb and manifold are horizontal) possibly an "a" pin
might help .Of interest oil is 20/50 pressure 50 psi tickover 40psi. Not sure about "a" pin a bit of a gamble when running.
I have a plan hopefully to solve without using the "a"wiil let you know more later. I believe every one may have the same
problem to a greater or lesser degree.

Re: Looking for Shorrock supercharger carb pictures
Hi Dave.
Have you finished refurbing the supercharger?
I have got a spare one to recondition for my car in a poor state.
Any tips?
Did you check the vane clearances mine are all over the place up to 0.020” (a good challenge this).Wear and scores all over the housing bore and end covers (vane rubbing or dirt looks like it had been refurbed more than once before).
Trunnions had been modified and made oversize with plastic inserts( the only bit that seems any good) What trunnions did you use?
Wrong rear bearing XLS 2.1/4 instead of XLJ 2.1/4J (lower speed, brass cage, not deep groove, but cheaper)
Vane carriers have no spacers between some of their bearings (so retaining nut could not be tightened, it was loose just retained by split pin)
All together a mess except trunnions, must have produced almost no boost .
Looks like I have got some machining to do to bring back to standard.
Just shows you don’t know what’s inside a s/h unknown shorrock.
