hood to windscreen

Post by Ray White » Fri Jan 06, 2023 4:03 pm

I am trying to imagine how the long wing bolts will connect the hood to the corner pegs on the windscreen.

Although I have yet to finish assembly of the windscreen and fit it to the scuttle...and also yet to fit the hood... a photo of how the hood and screen come together would be a terrific help.

Thank you.

Ray..

I don't have a photo handy, but basically it works like this... The peg on top of the windscreen has a groove in it. You lower the top header down onto that peg, with the peg going up into the hole in the header. When you tighten the wing bolt, it goes through the wood header and into that groove, which prevents the top from coming off the peg.

My header is new so I will need to make some holes in it. Are the holes lined in any way and is there something like a nut that needs to go into the wood for the wing bolt to thread onto?

There is a socket as I recall that lines the holes. Moss shows it for the TD-TF but I suspect it is for the TC also or check From the Frame up.

There are two plates welded to either side of the front bow of the frame which have holes in them to provide the location for the holes in the header and also have threaded bosses in to which the wingnuts screw.

I will have to check that my hood frame has the threaded steel plates. It came separately with the car; not attached to it.

This slightly blurred shot shows the left corner of the hood prior to being pulled down onto the screen and secured with the wing bolt....

.....does this help?

Probably simpler that it appears. A bigger issue I am having is with poorly made screen frame brackets. The holes are all out of alignment. I have resorted to drilling and tapping 2 BA holes in un drilled brackets. I expect many other restorers have had the same issue.

I really appreciate the advice and help given by you guys.
