TC choke cable length

Post by DaveAhrendt » Tue Sep 12, 2023 8:04 am

If anyone has a TC choke cable out of the car would you let me know the length of the shield? The cable in the car now is too short to work with my Shorrock supercharger setup. If I mount the choke linkage with the lever on the engine side the lever fouls on the throttle rod. Mounted on the bonnet side the cable just doesn't reach.

I had thought of trying to shorten the choke lever but a few shops said they would only try to weld/braze/?? a cast brass piece if it was just decorative not on a functional part. I'd also lose a fair bit of leverage trying to pull the choke.

Thanks,
Dave

I just removed one from a car to measure the actual installed length. The length of the housing from the flange to the end is 41". You need about another 3" of cable beyond that.

Keep in mind that replacement cables today are " cut to length" so they will be a little bit longer. I just took one out of the package (purchased at FTFU, same one sold at Moss I believe) and measured the housing at 42.25". The cable itself was about 50".

Hope this helps!

Thank you Steve. That is helpful. I haven't removed the cable from my car yet as I have a kluged mount that mostly works. At least enough to try to fire it up in a few days. Here is a picture showing the choke kludge and how short the cable is with the lever on the bonnet side.
