The next step was to seal the damaged areas with solder.
Will that work?
I used acetone to remove the old paint
smoothed with sandpaper
the material is identical to tin cans
so you should be able to seal it with solder like you use for copper pipes
I looked in my boxes and found a special flux
it already contains small amounts of tin
Then I carefully heated the material with a small burner and gradually worked on the spots
I then did the rest with solder, as it is used in the electronics industry
then I used some sandpaper to smooth everything out
the result is amazing
I don't think you will see any of the damage after painting
I filled it with hot water
everything is tight
now I'm really happy with the weekend

Franz-
I had a similar project almost 10 years ago. I needed to replace the actual cylinder. A person on Ebay had some of the cylinders available. To get the old cylinder out, and new cylinder in the can, I ended up replacing all of the solder--like you did.

wonderful evening 27 degrees blue sky
so I set off in the car
5 km from the house I filled up with petrol
drove off again to do my evening lap
200 metres and suddenly no more power
I pulled the car over to the side of the road
opened the bonnet to see what was wrong
all the cables were fine
???
idea
I took my old inspection lamp and plugged it into the socket on the dashboard
no light
no power!
ok
a 1965 Porsche stopped on the other side
we pushed the MG to the other side, it was much safer to work there
I went round the back to the battery, everything seemed fine, a light
at the front of the firewall I have a safety switch that lights up on both sides
opened my printed fuse box at the location of the regulator
there is a modern fuse there, one side lights up, the other doesn't
so I took it out and then connected the wires together
now I had ignition with power again and the TA started immediately
i love this old cars
i have heard that this fuses are not the best ones
this was the first time so i hope all wires are ok
most problems you can solve by yourself at the side of the street

Re: MG TA1932 in Germany - Blog - all problems and ...
perfect weather again today
first I changed the spring for the accelerator pedal
a softer spring the engine was just way too sensitive when I drove over a bad road
took the car for a 40-minute drive through the city
the car runs perfectly and the throttle response is now as it should be
the jerking is now gone
I cut open the old fuse with my angle grinder, it was actually defective
let's see what happens now, after the brisk drive the new fuse was cool and intact
what a fun to drive the car at a summer evening and 28 degrees

We had a fantastic afternoon with our English cars
2 years ago I was at a classic car meeting in Lüdinghausen
there smoeone invited me to visit
The little tea garden
Today we wanted to drive to Lüdinghause to have an ice cream
on the way to Lüdinghause I remembered the English tea garden
searched the internet and found it, it was on our way
and
it was open,
Normally you have to make a reservation
but with our English cars we also got a table
it was the key to the garden ;-)
see the pictures,
it was fantastic
the other guests thought our cars were beautiful, in keeping with the location

Re: MG TA1932 in Germany - Blog - all problems and ...
yesterday I took the TA for a spin around town to check the brakes
then I made some adjustments on the left side
another lap
much better
today between the rain I had a MOT appointment
the inspector is always happy to see my car
he sees that it gets better from year to year
2 years ago I had replaced all brake lines
all good
got the sticker for the next 2 years
#
now the TA can sleep until 1. March 25
finfish the metal body work on my MGA ;-)

I think you are a brave man to take on an MGA. They were rust buckets when I was working on them back in the 1970s....goodness knows how little steel remains after all this time!
It is a good thing that yours is not a British car or it would probably be too far gone by now!
All I can say is well done for restoring a sound one.!

Hell
you are too fast
I wanted to post on 777777
now I'm too late
it's my birthday today
after hard work at my son's old house,
we are really fast ;-)
got the keys on 22.12.24
all the electrical wiring, water sewage and all other parts are out now
the new roof is already on,
and today we finished the insulation in the attic
I got something really great from my children for my birthday
my son edited a photo and then had a special LED silouette made on the internet
looks great
from my wife i got a good for a hand made picture from our new old MGA,
but for this we have to finish the house and then the MGA
for my TA we have to rallys this year, the Eifelrundfahrt 1923 and the Bork Rally, both we have done the last years

First ride this year

the last few days the weather has been fantastic
but my work at the office and work on my son's new house left no time to get the MG out of the basement garage
time enough today
got the TA out of the basement and onto the street and moved the MGA frame from my outside garage into the basement
tidied up the outside garage a bit
then I took the TA for a little spin
the engine starts right away
the brakes work perfectly after the first brake application
so everything is ok for the season
we are really fast at the house but it will take a lot of time the next month, i hope we can finish it in August
