TC Starter Removal

Post by snnau » Sat Feb 20, 2016 8:24 am

I am sure this is an old topic but all my saved emails went away when my PC crashed.

My starter stopped working so am trying to remember how to remove it. I loosened the exhaust pipe from the manifold but still had to remove the switch in order to get it out. It that right or am I missing something?

I've always had to remove the switch. With stock steering you may have to unbolt and push it to the side. I have Datsun steering so I can leave my steering box in place, but I do have to drop exhaust pipe and turn the water outlet 180-degrees to allow the starter to slide past. It's a tight squeeze.

I recently removed a TC starter, and was annoyed at how little I remembered - I had to remove the head pipe (I ended up replacing the entire exhaust...), and the starter switch with those fiddly little screws. Even so it was tight and required a lot of twisting and turning - both me and the starter itself! At least it gave me a chance to go over the starter and file down the starter switch parts which were arcing slightly.
