TC gearbox advice needed
TC gearbox advice needed
My TC gearbox is badly worn on the selector fork between 3rd and 4th gear attached to the sliding dog underneath and there is a lot of play. I am told there are no spares for TC boxes, any advice or help on trying to source parts for this problem or repairing the worn bits, or on the subject of fitting a Ford Sierra box (?) as a replacement in my TA ? Repair existing would be preferable I think? Help!

OK, NTG in the UK have the shafts but not the forks. If you have an engineering company near you they can build up the bronze on the forks and machine them to the correct size. I'll check a few other sorces and let you know if I find any.

I've also heard that the forks don't exist, or at least they didn't last time I checked a few years ago. I've only heard of guys building up the forks and then machining them back down. You might try From The Frame Up. Sometimes they have new hard to find parts manufactured.

Stephen, call Digby Elliott, 07836 754034. One of his specialties is TC gearboxes along with other TC parts. Digby is just south of Salisbury on the A36.
From the Frame Up, Doug Pelton, may also have the parts you need.

Tom, thanks for that intro. I have met Digby Elliott and agreed he will sort the problem. The gearbox was extremely worn and not easily repairable. Good contact, especially as he is only 20 miles away from me !!

Digby also knows some great pubs in the area. The Horse and Groom in Woodgreen was the last adventure.

Easy enough to have the forks surfaced with a high tensile rod and machine/grind back to spec. Just find someone competent to do it if you don't have the tools or skills.
