damper cap

Post by jamesmdavis » Sun Jul 28, 2013 12:28 pm

Hi All - I have run into a curious phenomenon. Every so often I find that the brass cap and damper on the H2 carb servicing the supercharger on my TC backs off. I tighten it up and everything appears to be alright until I find it nearly falling out. Assuming the grandkids are not having fun at my expense, are there some ideas out there on cause and resolution? Thanks.

I ran into the same problem on TC0273. Solved it by putting a bit of Loctite on the threads after cleaning them. Just enough to create some additional "unscrewing resistance."

typical issue, may be the constant pressure changes affect the screwtops. Once more a reason to look under the bonnet before each ride.......

And not just on TABC cars! Some carbs have the issue and some don't. I suspect it has to do with how old, and therefore worn, the threads on the two pieces are.

BTW, I secured my caps by drilling small holes through top and sides and secure them with thin wire. Have a picture which, I am dumb enough, can't post on this forum:-( , but can mail:-)

Yup... same problem here. Locktight did the trick. Not too much though... when you think you have enough on there, you already have too much!
