It's been a while since I was regularly posting updates on progress with my restoration, so I thought that, in anticipation of a summer of great progress, I would start again. I think that I have reached a significant milestone in that I have completed the wood frame. The following are some pictures that illustrate where I have got to. It looks a little bit scruffy because I have bits of masking tape stuck to the car in several places to act as datum points for various measurements. I couldn't resist putting the old quarter panels back on to make it look like a car again. I'm quite pleased about how well they fit to the new frame.

The next step is to trial fit the radiator and bonnet to make sure that the scuttle top can line up, then fit the doors properly (I already did a trial fit before I screwed the wood together), and then put the quarter panels on. I intend to make my own front ones from new metal, but I will cut the tails off the rear ones and weld on new metal so that I can keep the original all important curves.

Our paths did briefly cross last year at a car show, but we never got around to arranging to meet. I live in Giltbrook (not far from IKEA), but I'm in your neck of the woods on a regular basis as I'm a trustee of Sherwood Observatory on Coxmoor Rd (next to the golf club).

Very nice, good to see that you are well on your way. I made up new front and rear quarters for TC2911 also. The fronts are easy, but for the rear I cut of the curved parts over the elbow rail and butt welded them into new lower sections, worked just fine.

After much messing around, I have now got one of the doors to fit properly. I've managed to get the right twist in the door with just the wood and the skin, without using the diagonal brace (which I will add later anyway). The door has a few small dents and knocks in it that are not worth sorting out until I'm prepping for painting. At the moment I've just given it a quick skim of paint to prevent rust. Thanks to Chris Blood for a top tip that putting shims in the body iron bolts might help with fit. It's amazing what difference a small adjustment makes. A 1mm washer at the middle bolt made just the right difference to the fit. On to the other door now, which will be a bigger challenge as it's in worse condition.

well done Steve , I cant take all the credit for sure but it does show you how little is needed to change things for the good ... and bad of course. The nearside will be easier now ... he says!
