TC bulkhead question.
I have the rubber seal kit that fits between the scuttle and the body. (I don't yet have the body) However, what I would like to know is if there should also be anything sandwiched between the chassis mounted supports and the scuttle. Do I just bolt the scuttle to the supports (three holes each support) or should there be any type of rubber seal in there.
Also, the toe board or ramp needs to be reattached to the scuttle. Is there supposed to be any protective sealant used here or is it just a paint to paint fit.?

Hi Ray, there should also be rubber between the chassis mounting supports and the scuttle. The rubber kit that I bought had those pieces in, made from the same rubber strip as the scuttle to body strips. Sorry, I don't know about the toe board.

Hi Ray, I can confirm what Steve is saying is correct; 5mm x18cm rubber strips between the mounting brackets and scuttle body. There were no seals or rubbers fitted between the scuttle body and the kick-boards, yes other than it being metal to metal it really didnt need it anyway. I've just been doing this work in the past 2 weeks on TC4245

Thanks Guys. I have been working on the bulkhead and kick board. The bulkhead had been recently painted by the p/o - straight over rust of course - but was not in poor condition when stripped back. I have now eliminated the rust and it's now painted in Bonds primer.
The kick board, however, had been ill treated. It appears to have been ripped off the bulkhead at some time and some of the captive nuts are missing altogether. I have lightly sand blasted the worst off and spent some time with hammer and dolly but I have now got it back in shape.
The hole for the taco was strangely mangled but I have reformed it. Surprisingly, there are no additional holes.

You can also buy the original style nuts brand new from Doug Pelton!

The replacement nuts are underneath the car and not going to be seen. That not withstanding, the ones I have fitted look very similar and more importantly they are the correct size and thread ; something the p/o seemed to enjoy getting wrong. I have spent many hours correcting such basic mechanical errors but I am sure you have also often encountered all this kind of thing.

Oh ok, if you have now fitted then fine. They are, like mine, 1/4" (+ 5/16")BSF hank nuts, hard to find when you need them.
