TC Handbrake Cross Shaft

Hi,
On an unworn cross shaft does someone know what the end diameters should be to
be a correct fit in the chassis bracket bearings?
I am sure my shaft is not worn but the bearings are but would like confirmation
before I purchase new bearings.
Best regards,
Steve

Hi,
I have now almost completed the restoration of my handbrake cross shaft.
I have new bronze spherical bearings to fit into the original end brackets which will give me good as new spherical bearing assemblies once finished.
Before final assembly I have a question.
Obviously the spherical bearings assemblies are required to take up any miss-alignment between chassis rails.
However, I'd like to know what the general consensus on bearing fit is for this application?
When the handbrake is operating should the cross shaft rotate in the bearings or should the shaft be a tight fit in the bearings causing the bronze spherical's to rotate in the steel end brackets which form the outer race of a crude spherical bearing?
My engineering experience favors a close running fit of cross shaft in the bearings.
The bearings were manufactured with slightly undersize bores so I have the option of creating either fit.
Many thanks in advance for any advice.
Best regards,
Steve
