TC front suspension

Hello ...greetings from a new UK member !

I've recently acquired a '49 TC which is basically a good driver but which will benefit from a rolling restoration programme over the coming months.

Most elements of the car are totally standard with the exception of the front shocks . These have been modified to accept telescopic dampers at some time in its past life ( all spent in UK from new )

There seems to be litte data available on the web, other than it is likely that Woodhead Monroe shocks were used.

I wonder if there is a source for replacements or should I just junk them & retrofit the proper dampers to restore originality ?

Thanks in anticipation

Geoff

Just my opinion, but the originals not only work just fine, they look SO much better. The front shocks on a TC are quite visible and to my eye, they just give one more reason for people to ask if it's a kit car.

Yes and no, Geoff. Unlike Steve, I like the look of the tube shocks on there - and unless you are a stickler for originality and can find a *good* or *rebuildable* set of front shocks that you can afford I wouldn't worry about it. Originals do show up on eBay occasionally, but not often, and the cost is generally pretty high. I don't know of anyone carrying them right now here in the States.
