MG T-ABC

I have just run across an Altette horn that looks identical to the one on my TC, except that there is no depression in the rear. Other minor differences are a single nut on front instead of double, and a thicker mounting bracket. Otherwise they look the same.

Does anyone know what type of car this horn would be appropriate for?

My TC Altette does not have the depression--perhaps it's not the right horn, but my impression is that both styles were used interchangeably. Anyway, it hoots, and scares the chickens out of my path!

Incidentally, I had to do some work on my horn, to correct some previous well-intentioned work by a previous owner, and found "Taff the Horn" to be a great source of info and parts.

Google Altette horn - these were used extensively on motorcycles as well as cars.

Thanks, I know they were pretty universal but my question is more about what models of M.G. (if any) would this horn be appropriate for. I suspect TA through early TC. The Altette site does have a lot of info but it's pretty hard to find exactly what you're looking for.

From TC's Forever (p 203): "The Lucas Altette HF1234 horn appears to have come, like most other TC equipment, in two varieties. Early ones have a solid round body [as pictured below - from the back] while later ones sported a sizeable chunk out of the top of the body [as pictured in the earlier post above]

all I can add is that I thought the cut-back bodies where the earlier type and the rarer to find!

And all I can add is that they might look pretty, and they sound loud in the garage, but on the open road they are as much use as a chocolate teapot! I fitted a Klaxon type horn on the bulkhead above the RF91, and that really makes dozy pedestrians jump

I think early ones had a pressed steel case, later went to cast iron? Maybe not, so don't rely on this.
