Forum and Web Site Comments

Hi guys, work continues on the site and forum. I know there are a few bugs here and there, and perhaps things don't work the way everyone wants them to, but I'm working feverishly to get everything up and running properly.

If you run across any problems, or have any complaints, comments, etc, please reply to this topic. I will address problems as they arise.

Known issues at this time (list will be edited as work continues):
  • * Past photos of the month are missing
    * Many pages (primarily tech and member pages) don't match the site style
    * Occasional error codes on Calendar page when in "Calendar View"

Is it possible to set a default sort order? I would appreciate having threads displayed sorted by post time + descending. That way, when I click the link in an email notification, I would see the latest message at the top of the list and would not have to scroll to the bottom.

Graham,

I believe that option is available to you if you click on "User Control Panel" in the upper right corner. The next page that opens has an "Options" box where you can set up how you want the board to display.

Here's another tip. Any time there are new replies to a topic, you will see a little orange folder to the left of the topic. Clicking this will take you to the first new post in the topic. That way you don't have to change the sort order, and you don't have to search through the topics.

The little orange icon will also appear next to the date when the new (unread) posts were made, in the upper right of each reply. You should see one right now in this post. This is useful in case you scroll around and forget which were the new replies.

Steve -

A number of other forum sites I visit have a button called new posts. This allows me to click and see only the new posts that have been added to the site since my last visit. Is this possible with this forum?

I appreciate all your hard work on this site.

Best regards,

Paul

Hi Paul, that feature is already here! From the main forum page (list of forums) look to the left side menus. In the bottom menu there is a "View new posts" link. That should do what you're asking. Let me know if it doesn't work right.

Steve,
How did Bing [Bot] and Google [Bot] get registered on the site?

Registered users: Bing [Bot], Gene Gillam, Google [Bot], olson_gene, stephen stierman, Steve Simmons

They aren't registered, just recognized by the software. I've been meaning to hide those from the online user list. Don't worry, bots have no access to anything other than post content. They are just searching the web to index it. They cannot read profiles or email addresses.

Interesting...I didn't know the search BOTS were visible...I thought they just snuck around.
