Need advice on shimming lower hinge

Post by pleask » Fri Mar 13, 2015 5:22 pm

After trying multiple things, with no success I need a little advice please. On my TC, I am shimming/adjusting the lower hinge. The front top tip of the door needs to come down a 1/4", and there is too much of an air gap between the two sections of the hinge...

At this point, I have a 1/4" of air space between the two halves of the hinge (too much, right?)
There is also 1/8" shims on both the OUTSIDE parts of the hinge (one door side one hinge post side)

Any suggestions on what to ad or take away please?

Thanks, Pat
PS: where do I go on this web site to change my password?

pat,

Suggest you remove all shims and start from scratch. Normally to lower the front of the door you'd shim the top hinge out from th back of the body, pushing the door forward and down.

The gap between the two sections of the hinge may be about right, not sure that it makes any difference. If your shims are on the lower hinge, take them off as Gene suggests and see what you have.
