Fitting Half-tonneau and rail to '49 TC

Post by Geoff Hemingway » Tue May 05, 2015 4:45 am

T-Friends

I'm on the verge of fitting a half-tonneau and rail which came with my '49 TC .

I'd appreciate any pictures/measurement which would assist me in positioning the rail on the seat backrest ( no evidence of any having been fitted in the past ) and also in the number and location of the studs on the tub for the Lift-O-Dot fasteners ( 10 supplied but not fitted to tonneau so can't be used as a guide)

Thanks in anticipation

Geoff

My TC didn't have any studs when I got it, but as it turns out they were simply filled in during the last restoration. We were able to find the original holes and drill them out.

The method of securing the front "flap" of the tonneau over the rail is worth mentioning....there are several studs in the backboard of the seat to which the elastic tapes are secured by "lift-o-dots".
These are in particular positions....if you need exact locations let me know.

I am in the process of installing one also and would appreciate any information on fastener locations. Could the information you have received be posted on this thread? Thanks.

The relative positioning of the various fasteners etc are shown photographically in Mike Sherrell's book on p220 and there is a description and further photo on p237.

Only 4 lift the dot fasteners for 1/2 tonneau, originally. Only the 1/2 tonneau came with the car. 2 in back and one on each side.
