wiper motor cable

Post by tone » Mon May 25, 2015 1:54 am

Other than some silicone to hold the cable back to the window frame how else can this be achieved, especially as silicone wasn't around in 1948! were there some clips to hold it back

Tony, If I remember you have a TC. The cable should be inside the chrome frame. It comes out the bottom left upright and goes into the scuttle. There is about 1/4" showing.

It'll be a difficult job the thread it through if it's the original cable, Moss sell new cable to match.

Ed to Add that it's part number 162-020 £9.50 page 35, item 4

Norman is right, there should be a small hole on that left side of scuttle. A rubber grommet goes there, too. Wires originally Grey (not round) outer sheath, with 2 thin solid copper (old telephone type) wires inside. One red pvc type insulation covering, the other black.

I just used the light gray outer covering from some CAT 5 phone cable and inserted standard ga. red and black wires from an old harness though the covering. Looks nice wired up to the motor, be sure to use a grommet going through the scuttle.

crickey, haven't got any of that, seems a piece of stand black elec cable currently glued to the inside of the chrome section of the windscreen!!

well I have a hole in the scuttle about an1 1/4" away from the window, sorry to pick everyones brains but does the side chrome channel come off or is there a hole behind, couldn't see one with the hood down?

I know this is all very picky but I always thought a cable glued on was a bit silly

More than grateful for the help and advice

There is a small hole drilled in the passenger side inner windshield frame near the bottom, maybe your wire is glued over the hole? Somewhere I read that the wire was a light gray in color and CAT 5 is easy to come by and I had some red and black wires...............

It is light grey, I've just taken my original out. It hard and brittle and have ordered another from Moss. Wasn't too expensive, unlike other parts.....

Flip phone takes better pics in low light than bright light, but we can see flexibility of insulation and general condition of wiper wire from 1949. Tinned wire like the rest of the wiring.

The plastic covering on mine has become very hard and brittle. Not so brittle that it's cracking but I won't be able to get it back in after the screen frame is re-chromed.
